Can you date my big Cattaraugus combat knife that I personally carried in Viet Nam. It opened a lot of c-rat cans, etc. B Battery, 3rd of the 6th. 1967-early 1968.
Wanting to buy Ka-Bar fixed blade as in the picture, pre-war.
Thank you.

I can only tell you Cattaraugus made only kitchen cutlery post-WWII, and the company ceased operation by 1963. Most likely it was made on contract during WWII. If the knife was “issued” it must have been in surplus storage since WWII until you received it.
Some military knife gurus here may have more info.
Welcome to AAPK.

Your Catt is a model 225 Q. These were only made during WW 2 so it is an old knife. It should have 225Q stamped into the blade below the script Cattaraugus but it looks like that is ground off or something. Cool old knife, they had thousands left over after the war and they were sold for several years in magazine ads and army surplus stores.

My dad was a WWII vet - maybe that's when it was issued. I got it from him.
