Swiss Army as EDC

Why do any of you carry any other knife than a Swiss Army on an everyday basis? Personally, I am partial to stock knives due to growing up on a farm in Iowa where my father and the other farmers carried them. However, I have a hard time justifying carrying a stock knife and doing without the tools of a Swiss Army, and I don't want to carry two knives. I think the old fashioned slip joint knives have character due to their different handles and due to the fact that no two of same model are exactly alike. Your comments please.

I carry one of several 4-1/8" trappers everyday. For one reason and one reason only, I like them. I have access to a bunch of knives, including a few Swiss armies, but I like the trappers. And besides I work in a shop almost all day and I can get any tool I need at a moments notice. Except maybe that neat little plastic tooth pick

Short answer:

My Personal Preference

Heya Fish, what part of Iowa did you grow up at? I am an Iowa native myself!
Anyways, I used to carry a Swiss alot, when I was in the 82nd Airborne though I made thge mistake of having one in my back pocket (this swiss had it all, even a magnifying glass!)
So we did a jump out in California in the desert and needless to say that bulky swiss army knife left a nice bruise on my butt cheek!
So now I usually carry a slim tactical Gerber, which gets the job done when I need a knife handy!

Knives I use

I don't carry a knife one on a daily basis. When on holiday, I agree with fish. My Swiss army knife does the trick as it includes tweezers, scissors, bottle opener, corkscrew etc. Around the house I use an old camillus electricians knife a lot. Very useful for opening those packages from ebay, cases of wine and the screwdriver blade comes in very handy too. Plus, I just like the the solid feel of it ::tu:: s-k

Thanks to the following for their interesting replies to my message concerning reasons for not carrying a Swiss Army as EDC. To agteacher2: Trappers are great and I carry them often especially fishing and gardening. To SFC ADP: Grew up on a farm near Burlington in Southeast corner of Iowa. Howabout you? Why didn't you carry the Swiss Army in your front pocket? To: Smiling-Knife: I also have a Camillus Electrician which I keep handy and use often around the house. Thanks again to all of you! Hope to hear from you again and would like responses from others also.

I too find swiss army knives handy. I keep a small Wenger on my keychain and a larger one in my glove box, I even keep one in my lunch box. But I still don't carry one in my pocket. I think they are a bit bulky. I carry a rotation of slip joints (cases, or schrades, and more recently a queen) and a spyderco for heavier duty use. They just feel better in the pocket and look nicer too...Nick
