All About Pocket Knives

Ever had a knife you were considering get sold because you waited too long? I've had a few including a couple from the store here. Hate it when that happens!

I'll start. Before I became a member here, I saw a Benchmade Barrage with a smooth black-ceracoted blade like the one pictured. They are out of production and I sure wish I had pulled the trigger. I'm guessing a member bought it. About 6 months ago I passed on a Benchmade shot show limited edition knife in the local Sportsmans Warehouse. Learned my lesson on the Barrage and went back and snagged the mini Osborne. Here it is. Figured I smartened up but NO, I just let another get away. Was Jonesin for a Case Dr knife posted by SSK but it sold!

So my message here is, if you are considering buying a knife especially from the store here you better do it because they don't last long!

Only one? There have been so many. If only I had not hesitated to commit to eating only out of the pantry and freezer for a week or two I'd own beautiful ...

Perhaps the best story for your thread: At a gun show I spotted a well priced collector gun and a couple tables away a table holder I'd bought a few knives from had a stag 4 1/2" Scatt & Morgan Whittler for significantly less than I had to bid for the on I already had. I hoped the S & M would still be there after I got the gun forms filled out, payed for it and passed the background check. Before I finished all that the knife seller stopped by to see what I was buying. I asked if he'd hold the S & M but it was too late.

Or maybe this story: I was plannig to bid late on a set of three sizes of Case stag Peanuts. I know, all Peanuts are made on the same 2 7/8" pattern ... except when Case sells other patterns as Peanuts. In this set I think the medium size Peanut was a 5218 jack. I know the big Peanut was a 5240 with a clip master and pen blades. The 5240 jack had a more Peanuty shape than the serpintine 5218 jack. Visiting at my mother's I had to drive to the library to bid on ebay. I almost got there in time. The three Peanut set sold for less than I'd planned to bid.

Oh well. If we'd bought them all where would we store them?

Too darn many to count. But there always seems to be another one that comes around and makes me spend my money.

Worst one: When l first started on e bay, l set a limit on how much l would spemd on a particular item. A blurry pic of what looked like a large knife(listed as a letter opener) caused me to limit my bid to twenty dollars. I was outbid by 5 dollars and lost out on a very nice 1850s era A.Davey & sons bowie!
Another time l was driving and spotted a garage sale as l passed the street. I could have backed up but elected to go around the block. As l pulled up and got out of the car, this guy is picking up a Case knifeax set from the table and reaching for his wallet. Pulls out a ten and pays for it! If l had only backed up!

I am certain that it’s happened to me with knives and other things but the only incident that I’ve never been able to forget was when I was in the third grade.

The teacher passed out candy to the class and I got a big roll of Starburst Fruit Chews. I wanted so badly to eat them right then and there but lunchtime was coming soon so I lifted up my hinged desktop and put them away temporarily. You know, trying to be all responsible and stuff.

I planned to eat them on the walk home from school. Was looking forward to it like nobody’s business. After lunch I discovered that somebody stole them out of my desk. I have never been so disappointed in all my life. Should have eaten them right then and there like I wanted to.

True story. That was 55 years ago and I will never forget it.
