Bent tip.

Any suggestions on the right way to go about straightening this bent tip? Or would I be better off just leaving it be? I used a ball peen hammer before with good success on a 1950s Imperial shell handle carbon knife but this one makes me nervous.

I don’t think it’s that bad
I’d leave it

I’d leave it alone. It isn’t that bad and the chances of snapping the tip are too high. I’ve straightened soft stainless steel knives like Victorinox by peening, but I have ruined a couple of carbon steel knives that way as well.

hey johnboat that slight bend on the tip of your knife is very small, I for one would not touch it. ::tu::

+1. Don’t mess with it. Not that bad, not worth the risk.

I never had much luck trying to straighten one. I'd leave it alone. It doesn't look bad to me.

I've straightened a lot of knives with bent tips, BUT I've also had a lot of them break on me. I'd say my success rate is 50/50. I would only mess with it if you absolutely can't live with that slight bend. As everyone else has said, it's not worth the risk. ::teary_eyes::

I just broke a victorinox trying to do that. I'd leave it alone. Yours is not that bad. :)

Amen, I agree with everyone else. If it were bent far more I might try it, but not for that.
Have a great day!

I’m with the majority here, it’s not worth the risk. I’ve had about a 50% success rate with straightening bent blades and yours isn’t that bad.

I have one with a bent tip. I tried to straighten it with moderate
success. You think using a hammer /vice would be easy but
the blade is resistant.

After trying the fix, the blade is a little better but my brain feels a lot better. I
still enjoy the knife.

Been there done that ::uc:: ... The first time I tried it, I said to myself "Just put the tip in a vice and a little presser should do the trick ... ::doh:: ... ::dang:: ... it did the "trick" alright, snaped it right off .... ::facepalm::

Well, thank you all for the advice and I will take you up on it and leave it be that’s how I was leaning myself. I just needed convincing not to make a mistake. I would regret.😆

Yes sir. Sure makes a nice (ding) sound when it happens. Then the heartbreak sets in.
