W, G. Mosley Cutlery Co.

Hello,
I recently acquired a small "gentleman's knife". It is a 2 blade however 1 of the blades is broken off. the tang stamp on the remaining blade is W.G. Mosley over Cutlery Co. The knife is a swell-center design and has mother of pearl covers. Sorry, but no pictures yet. Can anybody tell me anything about this company? Is it an American company or is the knife from an overseas manufacturer? I'm just trying to learn a little about the knife's provence.

It could be W.H. Morley Co. , which would be German.

Goins' Encyclopedia does have a listing for a "W.G. Mosley Cutlery CO.", but unfortunately it's one of those annoying Goins' listings with just a name and no information at all. Sorry.

All that means is that John Goins had seen and documented the stamp but was unable to find any information about it. Since his research was pre-internet it’s remarkable to me that he was able to find all that he did. His work is unequaled even today, decades later.

Here are some pictures of the knife. Cute little thing. Used to have 3 blades, not two. All that remains is the main blade. I would really like to know a little about where this knife was made. Ideally, I would love to know what it looked like new and what the 2 secondary blades were.

Ron Flook's "The London Knife Book" has numerous listings for Moseley.
There is a John Moseley and Son established in 1730 in Covent Garden, London. The directories list this firm in Covent Garden up until 1885. They reappear as Moseley and Son on Oxford Street from 1915 to about 1925. No mention at all of a W.G.
There is Roland Charles Moseley & Sons listed at various locations in London from 1920 to 1945. Also no mention of a W.G.
William Moseley is listed in St James Walk from 1836 to 1846. I don't believe your knife is this old, though.
There are also 5 listings for Mosley.
