All About Pocket Knives

I bought this unique knife and the seller had bought it from an estate sale of a retired Colt sales rep. He couldn’t say what it was but thought maybe a prototype or custom. Does anyone have any idea, or seen one before? It is well made and constructed. The Colt logo is actually stamped into the steel.

Maybe a prototype of an early Barry Woods knife Or somebody “borrowed” a Colt stamp for their handmade knife

Probably made by Stan Packy. Completely different mechanism than the Barry Woods patent knives.

Why would a Colt sales rep have a Pakistani knife? Looks to be higher quality than typical Pakistani offerings. Also more complex mechanism, decent looking Damascus steel, etc etc so on so forth. Nothing about that knife is screaming Pakistan to me. Aside from all that, really cool knife!

A fella that has 7 tables of knives at the local gunshows has a very similar knife on his table, but no Colt marking.None of his knives are marked in any way, if you press him about it he will admit that they are all made in Pakistan. Everything about it looks Pakistan. The line about the Colt sales rep is probably just crap. The Damascus pattern looks good, but who knows what the steel is.

That looks like a Scorpio Design Shape Shifter (although the blade shape is different and a bit odd). If so it's a very high end knife. Gunther Lobach is the maker and I think the Shape Shifter line came out around 2005-2010ish. May well be a proto he ran by Colt. Just spotted this and now I have my doubts about a proto.......

.... seems that very knife with the same pictures just sold on Ebay for $160 so that does leave some questions. May very well be a factory (from someplace) copy of the ShapeShifter design.That would explain the weird blade shape.

Eric your spot on, the Shapeshifter by Gunther Löbach is pretty much identical.

Unfortunately I think my search has revealed it’s most likely a cheap promotional knife. Oh well live and learn, but still a pretty cool knife.

I had a feeling that might be the case but like you said it's still a cool knife regardless.
