Searching, searching and searching….

Black Friday begins…
So what is YOUR “Grail Knife?”
The one, single, blade (or multi-blade) that you’ve been searching and saving for?
The one that you can’t seem to find?
The knife you would drive all day, to an obscure, local knife shop, in the most dangerous neighborhood in the region for?
The one you would move half of your collection for?
The one, last, final piece for your collection—that is YOUR collecting mission?!
So as the US consumerist orgy begins, what is the blade that YOU are on the hunt for, above ALL others?

There is nothing on my want list that I want as badly as your post describes but I’ve been wanting a Spyderco Para 3 Salt in Magnacut since they came out several months ago.
I think my wife might be trying to find me one for Christmas but I don’t think she is having any luck either. They seem to disappear as soon as they hit the shelves.

Not throwing cold water on the idea of grail knives but for some reason I'll claim the old saying of "I'm as happy as a dead pig in the sunshine" with what I have and even happier with the ones that are known as EDCs. My 3 old Queens, stockman, trapper and folding hunter and of course my "Sunday-go-to-meetin'" Tony Bose teardrop should get me through this life.
I will say I'm looking forward to the 2024 AAPK Knife.

I'm with you Philip. I have had a few I thought I'd never get rid of but did. My no line 72 is my grail knife I guess. I like adding something I don't have. Thank you Jerry and Tom this year. Just adding a few sprinkles and other toppings for now.

Grail knife is not in my vocabulary either. Most people looking at my "collection" would say "what a bunch of junk".

I used to crave a knife by H.H.Franck ever since l saw one at a knife show many years ago. Even then the price was 5 thousand bucks! Cant imagine what they are today. Over time my tastes have changed and l have come to be satisfied with what l have already. I enjoy changing knives whenever l want and not be disappointed. One of my favorites is a 5 dollar yard sale buy that has graced my pocket for several weeks now.

Thanks Floyd. I can remember when I was a kid all I really wanted was a nice 22 pistol and a Swiss Army knife with all the blades. Mission accomplished.

I want to find a Colonial ww2 pilots survival knife. I can find it online, but I enjoy hunting it down the old fashioned way. Finding it for 10 dollars or less at an estate sale or flea market junk bin is part of the "grail effect" for me.

This reminds me of a similar incident about 10 or 15 years ago. A lady bought a fixed blade at a yard sale for $5. She put it on eBay and expected not to get much more than $15 for it. Turns out that it was an authentic Scagle and ended up selling for something like $11,000.
There is a thread about it somewhere on AAPK that was posted while the listing was active. It was very much fun to watch that auction.

I haven't been chasing any grail knife...I have more knives than I could ever use. That being said, a Tony Bose custom would look good in my knife drawer...

I know the feeling well. I guess my "grail knife" WAS a Sabre 632 dogleg jack that I carried (EDC before it was a thing) for years, until it disappeared mysteriously in the 80's. Several months ago I ran across one on eBay that could easily have been the one I had. Needless to say, I bought it and probably paid a little too much for it.

Over the years I have had several grail knives. Diligence and perseverance paid off, resulting in my eventually obtaining each of them. I’ve posted about those knives and how I came to own them before, in other “grail” threads here on AAPK. Funny thing is, in every case although I was thrilled to get the knife, in an odd way it was a letdown. Mission accomplished, trophy obtained. But soon there was a new “grail”, and it was on to a new quest. The fire is hard to quench!

I think we all find new/different knives we "just have to have". My latest was the 2023 Ozark "Grail" orange, D2, axis lock. It wasn't so much a "grail knife" as it was that I was curious to see what everyone on the internet, and YouTube, was raving about. I refused to pay $35-40 for a $10 Walmart knife. I did recently acquire one at a "decent" markup, and I also acquired the 2024 "updated " version at MSRP. I am waiting for them to be delivered. I'll review them side by side when they arrive.
