what do you prefer ?

my spydercos

I like my Benchmades, but they are more expensive than the Spydercos.....however, when I travel, I carry the Spydercos as I think they are more expendable....?

Either is good, but some of those Benchmades are bomb proof...AFCK comes to mind.

What's the closest available model to it?

I have a Benchmade Griptilian with Axis lock and a Spyderco Paramilitary with compression lock. The Spyderco feels sronger, but that may just be the models in this case.

i asked because im a benchmade guy with close to a dozen pieces and just picked up my first couple of spydercos. i have 2 militarys on the way so im pretty jazzed about getting them later this week.

I really like Spyderco Knives but if I had to pick one over the other, Benchmade would get my vote. As a matter of fact, I have this Benchmade Knife in the mail finding it's way to my house sometime this week.

Edgewise....hmm, not sure what they are considering as the replacement for the AFCK.

I do like the Warren Osborne's, with the partial tanto point. Seem pretty solid and can get them for a decent price too.

I like the Ascent or Eclipse, model 512? - can't remember. Anyway, same blade as the AFCK but with a Zytel handle. So you know, about 10 years ago I saw photos of the Ascent in a vice, pulled on, and the blade broke before the Zytel handle......

Here is a Mini Ascent I sold about 3 months ago for $40.00. It was a very nice handling knife. I think that Zytel gets a bad rap as being "Cheap" plastic. IMO, it is pretty durable and strong, and keeps the pricepoint down on some nice knives.

i think you might be right, i received the first of my 2 millies and its leaving a little to be desired. its not like when i popped the box on the dejavoo or the 710 - that was definately love at first sight/touch. compared to the 740/710 the millie is kinda bulky for a 4" blade. the BM's are much sleeker and way smoother not saying the spydie is not smooth, it is just not as smooth as the BM's. when i first flipped the 740 open my jaw dropped, im just not getting this sensation with this knife and it may have to go.

I prefered Benchmades over Spyderco for many of years until I got the Caly 3 ZDP-189 CF. That knife seems to almost always be in my pocket.

for me it's equal, i like spyderco and benchmade. it's only model dependant

I like both but Benchmade is by far my favorite. The 520 Presidio is my go to "tactical' knife. I have tried other Benchmades, Spyderco, and Emersons but the 520 just feels right. The only change I made was to swap the original pocket clip for an Emerson clip, which is a bit beefier in design.

Much different styles of knives. Both companies have HUGE followings. Right now, I am liking the Snody H&K series by Benchmade. However, I also have some spydercos I am very partial to. Ever seen a Spyderco olivewood Volpe?

ive carried this knife for ten years using it for everything. Its never failed me, and i've been mean to it. i think that benchmade is a very durable tool.

Here is one of my first Benchmade knives. It is close to 20 years old.
One of the smoothest liner locks I own, (and I have quite a few).
This was designed by Walter Brend. I ran into Les de Asis 2-3 years ago at a Blade Show, he said they aren’t doing any of Brend’s designs any more, but they still get calls at the factory asking for this knife.

They both have some great designs but I prefer Benchmade.

I can't say that I like one over the other since I don't own any Benchmade's, but I do have this Spydie that's probably 20-years old tha is awfully good. It's probably the tightest and most solidly built knife I own. Anyone have any info on this knife?
