Help identify this maker 🙏🏽

Hi everyone, the pictures posted are from the seller of a doctor’s knife I am interested in purchasing, but do not know the maker. The tangs seem to only have “America”, stamped on them. The seller suspects either American Shear and Knife Co of Woodbury Ct or American Knife Company of Thomaston,CT. Appreciate if anyone knows.

GOINS (1998 edition) has, besides Japan, quite
a few, different, AMERICAN KNIFE CO's listed.

Thanks for the reply, Skip. I also came across lots of “American” named knife companies (per Levine’s book) and can’t quite pin it down. How’s the quality of your Japanese made traditional slipjoints?

I believe your knife is a vintage American made knife not a Japanese made one. Just my opinion

Most made-in-Japan pocket knives are post WWII. I believe the OP knife is much older. It has features not found on Japanese made pocket knives I have seen.
Nice knife, whoever made it.

Thanks everyone. I decided to purchase and plan to post more pics and do some more research once I get it in hand. Couldn’t resist, as I have a big doctors knife collection and a few MOPs from the 80s/90s (Schatt and Morgan and Fightn Roosters). Will be nice to have a real vintage one!

The 3 MOP doctor knives from top to bottom:
Schatt and Morgan (my favorite of the handles)
Bulldog brand (1987)
Fightn Rooster (1999, one of the rare 3 bladed versions)

Not an expert by any means , but your knife Looks like it may have a similar build to this Robeson .Robeson produced some knifes on contract . Whether or not any of the contract knifes may have been stamped America might be worth looking into .Great looking knife . Thank you for sharing .

Thanks for passing this along. I certainly see a lot of similarities, outside of the pen blade replacing the spatula of course. That Robeson look flawless. What year is it?
I have a few Robeson branded doctor’s knives that were made by Queen in the early 2000s.

Has an interesting marking on the pile side tang.

Your picture of the reverse side tang stamp is out of focus so can’t tell, but it reminds me of the stamp of Hermann Konejung.
