All About Pocket Knives

This is an old Ka-bar 1071 which I received on Saturday. It's had a good dose of elbow grease which was much needed and it is now fit to be inducted into the collection.

Apologies in advance for the crummy pics.

In pic1 you will see that the knife appears to have an extra liner.



In pic 2 you can see, just about, that this has enabled them to cut a shallow scoop out of the liner & scale to expose the nail notch on the pen blade.



My questions are:

1. Were all Ka-bar 1071's like this?
2. Anyone got any pics of this make & pattern?
3. Anyone seen this on any other slippie?

Here is a picture of my little 2 3/4" Kabar 1071...

...no extra liner, no scoop...probably mid '60s to '70s. I have seen the double liner on other knives.

That's interesting, Bill. Thanks. Mine only has the single central pin showing on each scale. David

I wonder if your knife may have been rehandled/customized? Just a thought.
Maybe pa knives (or another knowledgeable collector) will see this post and have some information.

I have a Ka Bar Dog Head 3 blade Yellow stockman with the extra linner as you say too.
I know mine was never rehandled.

Hi Ken,

The extra liner is used as a "spacer", to provide the cutler an extra 1/32" inside the frame. Makes it easier to build a double-ended knife, without crinking so much. Without it, the secondary blades would strike each other.
