All About Pocket Knives

I got this knife from my dad a few days ago, and he got it from his late friend who unfortunately passed away a few years ago. He gave it to me because he broke the fillet knife off . Anyways, I don't want to send it to Case because the tang of the fillet knife is the way you identify the age of the knife, and I also don't want them to replace other defective parts (cracked hook sharpener, normal wear and tear), and I am searching for the period blade with the correct tang stamp. I have a buddy who repairs knives and such, so all I need is the blade or a full knife that would be good for parts. If anyone has suggestions for where I could find one, or if they happen to have an extra I'd love to hear! Thanks yall!

Chances of finding a 1965-69 master blade for replacement are not good, but I wish you luck. Try posting your request in the Knife Repair and Restoration forum here. viewforum.php?f=37
The only way to replace it with a 1965-69 stamped blade is a blade from a donor knife from that era. (Or a welded blade. Such things exist but I don’t know of anyone who does it).

In my experience Case Repair will do whatever you ask - if you want to retain the cracked hook sharpener and worn covers, they won’t replace them if you specify that on your request. Replacement for the blade will be a blade from current production, assuming it will fit the frame in your original knife. It will have a recent year date code stamp. The pattern may have been re-tooled since that was made. The only way to find out is to ask Case. You would need to send them a repair request with pictures of your knife - see https://caseknives.com/pages/warranty-repair for details, and be sure to check the box indicating the knife has sentimental value on the repair request form.

There's a '73 for sale on Ebay for $35 that you can get the blade off of. Maybe they'll even drop the price a bit as it looks like that knife is outgassing pretty badly. Not quite the correct period but darned close. It's not like you'll retain a lot of value in that knife with a period blade as they don't go for a ton of money, especially in that condition, but at least you'll have a working knife that still retains the parts from his friend.

Thanks for all the suggestions fellas. I saw that one on eBay, and I might have to get it because then I will have a fillet knife at least haha. Yeah, I'm gonna have to go to Case and ask them for the specifications, and at this point, I may as well just send it off for a brand-new blade. but would it still have a warranty? Because on their website it says "for the life of the owner" and I am not the original owner hahaha. Would they still do it for free? I'm also gonna go ask on the repair forum and see if my dad still has the blade, if I can't get a new one I may as well fix it right? Thanks again guys!

A broken blade will likely fall under the category of abuse, thus is not a warranty repair, but I’ve found Case non-warranty repair prices to be reasonable and fair. However they might not be able to repair it if the current production parts are not compatible. BTW here’s something you might enjoy viewtopic.php?p=760026#p760026
