All About Pocket Knives

The Buck 112 has long been one of my favorite folding knives. I got my 1st one while I was in the Army in the late seventies. I had that knife for several years until I laid it on the track while working on a JD 450.
I really like theses Slim Select Bucks'. They weigh a fraction of a standard 112, they are easily opened with one hand, and they have what I believe is the best pocket clip in the industry. They still have great Buck USA blades, just not all the heavy brass, and best of all the price is less than 1/2 that of a standard 112 or 110.

I have been wanting to try a Buck 112 Slim Select. They are very affordable indeed and they get excellent reviews.

I don’t like that the blade has a slightly different shape than the standard 112 but that’s just a minor and personal nitpick.

I will own one sooner or later.

I prefer the older Bucklites to the newer 112 or 110 slim models. Handles on the newer ones seem flimsy, older Bucklites were chunkier, but super sturdy.

One of the other forums I'm on did a Buck Ranger challenge. For 30 days, I carried the three I had (112LT, 112LT Slim, 442)--and my findings were:

Handle textures on all three were terrible. Quality on the 112LT just didn't seem up to snuff for Buck (obvious that it was a budget model). The 112LT Slim was really too slim for heavy use.

Bought both first and second generation 422s afterwards. The first-gen has a great handle that feels like Micarta (even though it's plastic), and the second, despite an inferior texture, still feels great in hand due to the finger grooves. They're also just as solid in the hand as any brass Buck.

Keep meaning on getting the full-size 110 in the old Bucklite trim. If I recall correctly--wasn't there a Bucklite 501 as well?

My favorite Buck folder was the Paperstone version. Very similar to micarta, and had a skeletonized stainless frame inside handle, super strong. Guess they didn't sell well or something.
