Replacing the kickspring in a Schrade double button

I have an older Schrade 3-3/4" double button (7404K) with a broken kickspring. I have the replacement spring already. I wanted to know if the new spring can be inserted under the center pin or does it have to be removed to get the spring in place?
Thanks!

The pin must be removed. Grind one side and drift it out over a hole.

No, just spec out the one you removed , if you don’t have the exact size , turn down some larger stock to fit.

Believe a 1/16” nickel silver pin is what you will need. Cut a bit long, shape one end like a pencil tip. I put the other end in a small vice grip pliers. Turn a bit as pushing though. Likely to be a bit tight. Once thru trim the pin ends. File flat leaving a bit proud. Peen the pins to dome them. Be careful to avoid breaking the scales.
