Found this in with some of my dad's stuff after he passed. Can't find anything like it on line. Can anyone identify and give an approximate value? Single blade Buffalo Shield - open length 8 14/ inches. Thanks.

Welcome to AAPK. Until someone smarter comes along I'll give you what I know. The 96 on the back tang is the year your knife was made, so it's considered a reproduction Winchester. I'd guess the value about $50, but that's just a guess. You should be able to find more info on line because it is a fairly recent knife and not terribly rare.____Dave

Dave is correct. It’s a modern reproduction, not an original old Winchester. It looks Ike a nice one. Probably made by Queen, they made several patterns with that shield and having the same jigged bone covers.

Go to eBay and do an advanced search for sold listings only, for “Winchester Buffalo shield knife”. You should find several similar knives that have been sold recently. That will give you a ballpark idea of its worth. ::tu::

Definitely one of the Blue Grass/Queen made knives. If you have the box and Certificate, they fetch a nice price on eBay.

Here's a 2 blade one that sold back in July.

$178 is too much. Most likely two hotheads wanted to get this knife at any cost ::dang:: .
For the topic starters knife (without the box) the maximum price would be $100. Although, anything can happen on eBay  .

Thats a $140-$160 knife just depending on who is selling it. Some of those Winchesters were I believe made at the Bluegrass shop in Ohio, I think it was the big ones like the one posted and the elephant toes. Most of the ones I have were made at the Queen shop. I believe the ones with celluloid covers are queen made as bill told me they hauled in huge squares of the material when they were doing those knives. he didnt know how they cut the slabs for handles.
