All About Pocket Knives

Howdy Y 'all I'm thinking of getting a Spyderco from a friend How do you like the knives that are made in Golden Colo.? Isn't that the old Western Factory? and those 503 steel?

Personally, I’m not a fan. I don’t like their blade profiles, I don’t get the spider hole and the overall quality looks and feels like a Maxam or similar. I worked in a knife shop that stocked almost their entire line and I couldn’t warm up to any of them - but they sold well so there is a following.

I'm a Spyderco fence rider. Just when I see some of their knives I do not like, I see a couple, few that I DO like.

I like that they place a high emphasis on good ergonomics and also that many of their models come with a variety of blade steel choices.

I have a few Spyderco knives but none of them are in my current EDC rotation. I think they are a good company that makes good knives. I don't dislike Spyderco but I usually choose other brands for EDC.

Like Tom said, they have quite a following which I believe they have earned.

Which model does your friend have?

I have a UKPK I really like, and their little slip joint. I’m not a fan of locking blades but they are fine knives

I believe Western was located in Boulder rather than Golden.

Manix 2 Half Serrated black blade

The Manix is a pretty popular model.

As far as Golden production is concerned, I’ve owned a Native and a Para 3. Both were fine knives with the Para 3 being the better of the two.

I believe the company is Headquarters in Colorado. Some of the knives were made in Japan, and those were pretty good. I think all of their production now comes from China.
I like one handed opening knives, and I like locking blades. I bought one of their knives with VG10 steel, and was horribly disappointed with the edge retention.
I have one of their current production knives that was given to me. It isn't a bad knife, I carry it in my car in case I need a knife, but I wouldn't buy it.

Spyderco still makes knives in Golden, Colorado as well as Taiwan, China, and Japan.

They might manufacture in a couple other countries too but those are the four main ones.

The Manix 2 that the original poster is looking at is still made in Golden today.

I like them.

I have there PM2 and really like it I can open and close it one handed, and it’s got a great quality of build.

My Spyderco is made in Japan.
