My friend and I like trappers but we would rather have a sheepfoot blade rather than a useless long spey. How many people skin animals these days?

The spey still seems to have a loyal fan base. I tend to agree with my personal preference being the wharncliff trapper.

Nice collection there, rdnzl! I’m a fan of the Trapper. Good size, I think. But I’m with you, Matt. A Wharncliffe instead of a Spey blade would be nice - but I suppose a lot of folks would say it’s not really a Trapper without that Spey blade.

Good point. However I believe the origin of the wharncliffe trapper is attributed to Tony Bose. If the terminology is good enough for Tony, who am I to second guess

Beautiful group & sweet pic! When I first started, my collecting was all over the place. Lately I've tried to focus it more. I've been concentrating on the CV/CS trappers, mini trappers, and copperheads.

The spey blade was designed to slice while reducing the risk of puncturing. While today very few folks skin or neuter animals,, lots of people open packages. Far from " useless", to the contrary a spey blade is very well suited for exactly that purpose. Give it a try!

I'm going to have to say I see the logic in your thoughts on the wharncliff trapper. I carry a trapper a lot and I am always cutting things ... but NOT skinning things... ..... but I do open a lot of packages... TOO MANY PACKAGES (TMP)

Nice knives, I don’t own many trappers at all, I think 3 outta the couple hundred Case I still have. Never really disliked the pattern, but my brother in law got me into the hobby-errr obsession of knife collecting and it’s his favorite pattern, long story short I’d trade basically every one I picked up to him for something more in line with my taste.

Just got this. I don’t remember a lot about seeing these old “B” movie cowboys at the theatre, but I do remember watching The Roy Rogers Show on TV on Saturday mornings as a kid. And, of course, the old cowboys movies from the 1930s and 1940s were a common thing on TV on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon in the 1950s and 1960s.

Tim, that is a great trapper! Trappers are one of my top favorite patterns, and I always love seeing new and interesting ones out in the AAPK world, Great picture and post

This is my only full size (54) Case Trapper. BIGHEAD swapped the micarta covers for Natural Jade G-10 and did a little custom filework on the blade and spring. I'm a big fan of the single Wharncliffe blade.
