All About Pocket Knives

After reading the is there a knife you won't buy thread let's lighten the mood. I'm not asking about those practicle tools that you don't buy more of than you need. Obviously none of us could afford to buy every example of a knife we like nore could we store them. Even QTcut5 couldn't buy every mini-trapper on the planet. However, at least some members over buy certain types just because they enjoy owning them. For me it's stag handled large stockmans and stag large coke bottles. While I've carried large stockmans a lot the huge coke bottles mostly give me bigger pieces of stag to admire. Truth is I've rarely used large coke bottles.

If it works as it should, is all intact, made anywhere but Communist China, and under $5, it’s probably going home with me.

Actually, my collecting focus has shifted off of Mini-Ts to knives with ACSB handles. And of course OCD Monkey won't allow me to pass up any Stag or Mammoth Ivory Wharncliffe Swaybacks without putting up a ferocious fight!

There aren’t any knives that I can’t resist buying. For 15 minutes.

If there's a unique American made knife, I'm on it like white on rice. Old or new production, it doesn't matter. Probably a sweet Cattaraugus King of the Woods will be my next pickup, but who knows when?

I can’t resist supporting a fellow AAPK member sounding the alarm by offering a part or all of their knives for sale. Same goes for fundraisers like the one’s AKTI has. I usually wind up giving those away to my sons and friends.

I’m not buying for my collections much anymore unless that never seen model surfaces at the exact moment that my wallet is flush.

Hmmm...my list seems to be growing. But I think that I can sum it up by the following list, if the knives are inexpensive and made in North America, Germany, or Japan:

1) A large Stockman, especially if it has yellow handles.
2) Barlow knives.
3) Whittlers (I have very few, but then I find few of them that are cheap).
4) Cattaraugus knives.
5) unique or odd knives that just strike my fancy for some undefinable reason.
6) Parts or repair knives.

Seki Japan Made ... especially fixed blades ... got my number!

For me it would be any old bone handled folder like a Wilbert for instance, that has chips and chunks of bone missing. Easy to repair with AcraGlas. I also do buy some with broken springs and make new ones.

Seki Japan made, especially Moki, Mcusta and A.G. Russell. Knives made by Master Seizo Imai, that bear his signature. Knives made by Master Hattori.
Wendell Carson made knives. Case Classics.
Congresses, sowbelly stockman’s and whittlers.

I love Case Tribal Lock's and knives with mammoth ivory handles.

Schrade Walden or Schrade Cut Co, in bone or wood...

Also, if the price is right, I will buy just about any Bruckmann. Of course, I have gotten a little more selective of late.

Thanks for the heads up. I have several of those already so I have a little resistance built up. Someone would be pleased to have it I hope.

One of the knives I will always buy is the USA made 5 inch or 51/2 toothpick. The last few years only bear and son makes them including for other places like red hill cutlery as special runs.other tha that the only ones and USA company that still makes that size. Also I will always buy if I don’t have it and I’ve been collecting these for 30 + years. The ideal 2 and1/2 closed souvenir knives with colorful picture handles .I’ve got around 100 and just added a cripple canyon off ebay where I find most of them. And Queen 49 pattern which is my faorie

Tom I thought of joining KA but I found out they have an annual knife every year.
