2024 AAPK this and that GAW

It's been some time since I hosted a GAW. I like modding knives or just rescuing them from the scrap pile in general! However, I have more knives than I could ever use, so my loss is your gain.
Rules are simple...to qualify for the GAW, you must be a supporting member, OR a non-supporting member with at least 100 posts. This GAW is to celebrate those who add to the forum on a regular basis.
I have 5 knives to give away. Simply pick a knife you would like your name to be put into for drawing.
The only catch is that you have to share what brought you to AAPK, and why you stayed, or what you like about the site
With the exception of the Max Sao custom, all of these knives are not new, and probably have dings, scratches, or old corrosion spots. Please do not look to win these knives if you are going to turn around and flip them. Of course, giving them away is always acceptable! As with a lot of my work, it's not perfect...I sometimes don't sand every scratch out, or the pins don't always blend as well as I'd like. But hey, they aren't works of art, they're meant to be used and enjoyed!
Alright first one up is a Camco Peanut with amber jigged bone. Used but not abused, great to throw right in your pocket.
Next up is a Schrade 175 pattern with their stainless steel blade. Dressed in some of my stag, the blade is pinchable, and not too stiff opening and closing, so great for those that don't have strong fingernails.
Next is a nice older Case XX 087PE small stockman. Used but allowed to age gracefully (unlike me), I dressed it in some of my reddish stag and reset the existing shield. Super sharp, not nail-breaking blades, and ready for the pocket.
What would a GAW be without a TL-29 mod??? This is a straight-forward TL-29 mod, dressed in some dyed giraffe bone. The blades have some dings and scratches from the previous owner, but it's ready to go to work for you!
This last one is a full custom, brand new from the maker. I did not alter it in any way. Made by Max Sao, a custom maker with interesting and creative design ideas. The knife steel is 154CM, with smooth amber bone covers. A really nice custom for the price, you should check his work out!
One entry per person. I'll let this run for a while, knowing people may be on vacations...

Well post like this are one of the main things that kept me around! Not the opportunity to win but the generosity of the members and the skill they display. I’ve always carried a pocket knife and came here looking at some odd balls I found trying to identify them, and just keep hanging around. Thanks for the chance Glen.

Glenn, I really like that Schrade 175. I first came to AAPK because of its whittling thread. After I got here I got more interested in knives than whittling. I have met some awfully interesting and fine folks here and appreciate the lack of drama. And some of the knife mechanics turn out some fabulous work.

thanks for the opportunity.

I am not participating; I have too many knives (Yes, I really do!). Just want to thank you, Sir; you are a Gentleman and a generous man. I have always found something interesting to view in these hallowed halls and for a time I felt like I had something to contribute, especially back when the Schrade subforum was more active. So, thanks to AARP as well.

I really like the Schrade 175.
I came here like a lot of guys. Researching some of my knives that I couldn't find in my books led me here.
I stayed because of all the available information and knowledge. I have learned an amazing amount about knives. But , mostly I stayed because of the people. Not judged for asking "stupid" questions etc.
I have looked back at some of my early post and thought "did I really ask that question".
If I would have ask those questions on BF I would have been belittled.
I have communicated with guys here so much I felt like we were really friends even though we never met. I have actually met some of you guys in person and I was correct, we are friends.

Please enter me for this beauty Glenn. What brought me to AAPK many moons ago was the lack of knife clubs where I was living and my need for information gathering. I stayed because I was greeted warmly and found that I had something to contribute to others in the forums. What I like about AAPK is the respect that is exhibited to everyone no matter if they are seeking the value of an inherited collection, starting an AAPK store, or looking for a shoulder to cry on. To me, the staying power of AAPK is unlike any other online knife community and I know I speak for many when I say life would be dramatically different if I woke up one morning and AAPK was gone. Thank you Bryan for creating a forum where people just want to give away knives and Glenn for being moved in such a benevolent manner!

Goodness Glenn, they are all beauties!
I like the TL-29 with the giraffe bone.
Scrolling around some years ago, probably looking for information on a Case pocketknife, I ended up on AAPK late one night. Seems like l joined and slowly learned to navigate the forum. I found a bunch of real folks that were easy to get along with.
I found the Upper Room to be a special place and have been able to participate encouraging and praying for issues shared and have been the recipient of the same as we've shared difficult issues with others on that part of the forum.
The First Cup has also been very special since Scott started it up.
The depth of knife knowledge gladly shared makes this the best knife forum going.
Special cyber friendships have been developed plus I've had the privilege of meeting 3 members in person.

Put me down for the Max Sao please.
I bought a 476 piece collection from a client’s estate back in 2015 and finally got to selling it in 2017. AAPK is the site that I used the most for tang stamp research and other details. I was impressed with the kind way that people deal with each other here on the site and that left an impression on me. When I got done selling that collection on eBay, I kept collecting and buying collections and soon I had more knives than I had room so I opened a store here in 2018 and moved most of my listing to my store here.
The friendships I forged with other collectors drew me in to being a participating member on the forums. I’ve made many friends here and look forward to interacting with them every day. I miss a lot of members that either moved on, don’t participate or have passed away. But there is always someone new to get to know in the mean time.

Glenn, these are all beautiful! I would like to be considered for the camel-bone Camillus, if I may.
I came to AAPK after having one of my dad's knives confiscated by the TSA (I had not been used to carrying a knife for many years), and I had another of his knives that I could not identify. I can't begin to say how much help I have received and how much I have learned from the folks on this forum, every one of whom has been thoughtful, supportive, and generous toward me.

I would like to throw my name in the hat for the Camco Peanut.
I became interested in pocket knives as a hobby when I took my great grandfather's knife out of a box, and decided to clean it up so that I could put it in my pocket and use it. I had used knives professionally for years, but didn't know anything beyond slicing meat and sharpening. That was probably the first day I browsed this site.
Soon after I decided to buy another knife to restore. Then another. Then I discovered that buying in lots was cheaper, and that old knives offered interesting avenues for history research. Buying and researching unknown rusty old knives would lead me to this site daily. I believe I finally made an account to ask a question, as many here do.
I don't use other social media sites/apps so this was actuality a big step for me. I didn't participate much beyond asking for help at first. I was, however, awfully interested in the Mystery Knife Game. The first time I answered correctly, I felt accomplished; felt at internet-home. Now I'm on several times a day, asking questions about knives and old tools, and enjoying what others have to share.
I came looking for information, but I stayed because I found a community. I didn't know then that that's what I really needed in my life. But now I do, and I'm grateful that it can be found here.
I try to bring enthusiasm where I lack in knowledge. I offer info where I can, but I feel I'm mostly here to receive the torch from my elders.
Im interested in the Camco because I like little knives, I like nice bone, and I've a soft spot for inexpensive brands or brands that aren't sought after by collectors.
I often sell the nicer knives I come across to finance my hobby, but keep a very few of the interesting one's for myself. My "top drawer" is a small collection of my daily users, consisting of knives from my grandfather's (and their fathers) and from my friends. Rest assured, this is where the Camco would reside, when not in the pocket, until it's, or my, demise. In which case all knives are to be distributed evenly 3 ways between my sons.
Whether Im chosen or not, I appreciate your service to your fellow man my good sir.

After I "stumbled" onto AAPK and scrolled through a couple of threads, I joined to gain more knowledge about the knives I had accumulated over the years and knives in general. After lurking for a while, I started posting and "discovered" a treasure trove of knife knowledge that was freely shared by a wonderful group of like-minded individuals. I am grateful that the knowledge I gained from asking a "stupid" question allowed me to salvage a cherished Fight'n Rooster Cannitler, which I have yet to summon the courage to attempt re-handling. Then I found that the generosity of AAPK members isn't limited to the sharing of knowledge, but many times includes the sharing of knives through monthly, and other generous GAWs such as this one. I also really like that politics, for the most part, is confined to a "membership only" sub-forum which I have not asked to join. I also like that there are outlets for discussion of things other than knives such as music, guitars and prayer requests to name a few. AAPK seems to be one of the kinder internet communities, with virtually no denigration/intimidation of anyone. Though all 5 of the GAW knives are beautiful, and would be a welcome addition to any collection, I particularly like the stag handles and sheepsfoot blade on the Schrade 175.

I have my eye on the TL-29 mod. I got going on AAPK to learn the fine details of knife repair and modding. I too like the aspect of saving old knives that already have one foot in the grave. After I had done some of that and learned the basics of repair, I started to post ones I had modded and specialized methods to encourage others to try knife repair. I enjoy seeing the work of others here on AAPK, and running my own yearly contest, the decoy give away in April.

Glenn, I would gladly enter for a chance at that small Case Stockman.
I have carried pocket knives for most of my life, but never collected them. I used them, and sometimes abused them. After I turned 50, I realized that most every knife I owned had been a gift from my Dad. I had bought knives to give as gifts to other people, but none for myself.
For many years I desired to make knives, but then came to the realization that I actually knew very little about knife construction. So I thought that I would try to rehandle and repair a couple, just to get a feel for it.
AAPK came up in several Google searches, and there was so much information here that I joined rather quickly.
I knew nothing about the names of patterns, or most manufacturers, or knife repair. But through the information here, and through the friendships that I have found, I now feel at home here.

Glenn, first I would like to say that it is super nice of you to be doing this! Second, please put me in for the Max Sao knife.
1. What brought me to AAPK was Steve Pfeiffer. I made Steve's acquaintance a few years ago (on line) and he urged me to join AAPK.
2. The reason I've stayed is simple. I've met a bunch of really nice people here and the knowledge and information sharing is terrific. I spend a fair amount of time repairing and restoring oldies, and have fun occasionally sharing what I've done on the Repair and Restoration Forum or, getting advice on how to improve some aspect.
3. What I like about the site - well, a lot of things. But all the different forums available, the ease of doing research, and learning new stuff, and all the great people on AAPK are some of what comes to mind.
Thanks Glenn!

Wow! Glen those are beautiful as always your work is superb. Thanks for the generosity.
The easy answer is. I came here to learn about knives.
I went back to my first posts, and the first 3 are complimenting other people’s knives. So I guess I joined to have conversations and make friends.
Mission accomplished!
My fourth post was a message to Benchmade about a perceived flaw I found in my TRIAGE.
Thanks again Glen.

Glen, allow me to throw my hat into the ring the the Schrade 175. I first
found out about AAPK when I did google knife search if Coleman knives
were good quality. I have used a pocket knife several years before that
search. My wife bought me a Case Whittler for a wedding anniversary present
in 1978. It was after looking at the AAPK web site several times did I
develop this hobby.
This group has always been very polite to each other and willing to share
correct information in a fun way. It reminded me when I first started of
a Rollei Camera Group that was very active in 80's and 90's. It too was a fun
group until everyone went to digital.
The willingness to give to other members shows what it is to be a member.
Knife collecting would be no fun if you did it all by yourself and did not have
anyone to share it with.
Bob

That Schrade presses my buttons. Beautiful stag! I found AAPK researching a pocket knife I found at a antique store and wanted to join right away! What a wonderful site with so many knowledgeable people! I have made many friends since I have joined all with the same love of cutlery as myself. I check the site many times a day! What a great group of people! I search antique stores, flea markets and such to locate knives that I can buy and research. Learning through research is more fun than the actual accumulation. Many coworkers, friends and family have found and donated to my accumulation. I help people I work with and friends research their own knives.

Teriffic idea and most generous of you, Glenn, thanks. I'd like to see the TL-29 in my hand one day.
I came to AAPK via Mark/SSk, we had met online over a knife deal, and he suggested I come and see what goes on her, which I did that evening and have been here since, 4 yrs. just past being to the day.
What made me stay was the overall friendliness and light atmosphere. Having sat on the edges of a couple of other knife forums, I was solely disappointed with their "rhythm", non-desire to help, and on one of them vulgar language, so landing here was a relief.
What I like is the continues friendliness and camaraderie, we're always supportive of each other, share our knife knowledge if we can, and all the beautiful knives I get to see.
I'd say, that's pretty much hitting the trifecta for a knife forum.

Glenn that little custom cutie catches my eye.
I came to AAPK seeking information on some knife related matter. (I have no recollection of what that was.) I've been here ever since, sixteen years now. AAPK was my first, and for several years, only exposure to social media. I have found tons of information and countless friends here. I've had the good fortune to be able to meet many of these fine folks in person. My life is much richer for having the opportunity to be a part of this community.
Thank you, Glenn, for your generosity. You're one of the best.

Thanks for the opportunity, Glenn... Very generous of you to donate such a fine group of knives. I love me a nice Wharnnie, so I would be interested in that cool little Max Sao Custom.
I found this site back in 2016 while researching a knife & joined shortly thereafter. The first few years, I was still working a lot of hours, so I would log in as time allowed to learn more about the hobby I love. I started posting and became more active in 2020 and have met a lot of great people and learned so much since then. I have made several friends and enjoyed buying and trading for a number of knives I would have otherwise not had the opportunity to acquire. I love the fact that so many members are willing to share their knowledge about this great hobby and always enjoy looking at the beautiful pictures everyone posts. I still don't have as much time as I would like to be more active and post pictures, but do enjoy posting my new pick-ups from time to time, and always appreciate the great feedback from several of our members.

Glenn, put me in for the Case -087 please.
What brought me to AAPK was when I first started collecting knives, I was looking for a Puma 675 Stockman. Well, Steve Sanders happened to have one in his AAPK store, which I found through a Google search.
What kept me was, when I started looking looking around at the threads viewable to the public without having a membership, I realized this site was a treasure trove of knife information. Then once I joined up, the comradery of the members, the helpfulness and the respect each member had for other members or just random people looking for information made me realize this was something I wanted to be a part of. When I had almost zero knife knowledge, people here had patience in helping me out. You don't find that just anywhere.
I saw this thread a few weeks ago and then forgot about it. Thank you for the opportunity to own a glennbad original.
