I have noticed on newer Case xx pocket knives , another set of numbers on the factory sticker on the box other than the usual handle material/ number of blades/ frame or pattern numbers stamped on the tang since after the Xs down period. What are these numbers?

"A picture is worth a thousand words". Without a picture, from your description I can only guess maybe it's the Case item number? Case has had item numbers, I assume for inventory purposes, for a long time. They appear in catalogs, used when filling dealer orders. They pre-date the use of individual boxes. Not sure when they started putting them on the box labels, but when you start making a 6318 stockman with umpteen different handle colors, those unique item numbers take on a whole new importance!

Even if there have been only been umpteen different 6318 colors, orders also have to be specific for who knows how many jigging patterns. ::sotb::

Case sells train loads of _318s because they're practical knives. Not down grading _318s to three spring knives like Case did to _347s also helps sales.

Ken, I should have thought of that, with all the handle materials and colors, blade styles, etc. No wonder they need numbers or codes to keep up with the knife orders, thank you so much
