Knowledge regarding an old knife is requested.

Hello,
I obtained an old Remington UMC knife recently at a thrift store. It was on sale so I got it for a buck.
It is a 2 bladed device with one blade at each end. It has no maker info or shield on the black resin handle but both blades are stamped "Remington UMC".
Blades are 2" and 1 1/4" long.
I have searched rather extensively and have not been able to find a Remington knife that looks like my thrift store purchase.
I suspect it is a repaired or knock-off knife but I just am not sure about the thing.
Any insight or sage-like feedback is truly appreciated.
Some pics have been supplied for your review.
Many thanks, in advance, for any help I receive.

Pfeffdog, the tang stamp indicates a production tange of 1921-1924

The closed length is the most helpful, but you have provided excellent pictures. Looks like 3 1/2"?
::welcome:: to AAPK!

Sweet old knife and very experienced. It looks to have lived a sheltered life in someone's right front pocket. Glad you got it and hope you enjoy it.

That is what we call a HOK, or an Honest Old Knife. The blades show a lot of wear, but are not worn out!
Let me know if you get tired of it!!

Welcome to the forum, Pfeffdog.

You have a very nice knife no matter how much you had to pay for it.

::tu:: LOL… Well let me try to give you something of what’s left in the ol’ gourd! Based solely on “your” pictures I will guess that you have an old Jumbo/“Big” half whittler, sleeveboard R3942. The main blade was I think a spear blade,( yours good and worn) with the Tang stamp from 1920-1924 era. Reversed side of tang marking should be stamped R3942 with the 2 indicating a Black composite handle. The other end blade is a Spey blade,( lovingly worn) and has the same tang stamp as main blade. It should have an arrowhead shield or crest made of nickel silver as well nickel silver bolsters. This knife could have been produce later without a shield. The lining should be brass. The blade finish would have been 2E indicating Crocus polished and Etched.The length closed should be 3 5/8 inches. In 1929 this knife sold at jobbers cost of $9.00 per dozen and for the tradesman at $12.00 per dozen. Pictures are in the C20, No.1,C-5 and other Remington catalogs. Just a hunch and guess… if yours does not match the lining and others descriptions presented, it may not be the R3942. JMHO…Rocky ::dang:: ::handshake::
