Seems a little “iffy” to me, but I’m far from a Case aficionado.

I don't like it, but I've been wrong before.
The Case between the date code looks crooked.
The model stamp isn't crisp.
Something about the jigging...
And I've never seen a bare headed Canoe, but there's a lot I haven't seen.

All good points. I did discover that Case did produce a barehead Butterbean, model 62132 in 2001. That information matches the eBay listing, but it still looks wrong to me.

I believe the knife is legit. In 2001 Case produced a series of several patterns having “Rogers jigged Autumn bone” and shadow bolsters. That looks like one of them. The 62132 pattern number indicates the “Baby butterbean” pattern. The series was also released as a mint set that included all the patterns having those covers, in addition to open stock versions.

Thanks to everyone who replied. After I found the Butterbean online, I thought it might be. I was curious because I’m looking for a Case Canoe, but not really interested in a Butterbean.

Those tang stamps aren’t a glowing recommendation for Case QC.

Don’t you think that happened when an everyday tool started to be seen as a collectible?

And “reading the knife” is a learned skill that can be a lot of fun or present a real quandary. It’s a skill I
hope to hone through my participation here.

My point exactly. Maybe that’s one of the reasons they changed to laser marking the stamps instead of using a press.

Frankly I doubt Case QC inspects for stamps. We have examples of upside down stamps, stamps with incorrect numbers (like the famous and valuable 61111–1/2, with an extra “1”), etc. Many older patterns, from all makers, have stamps misaligned, stamps that run off the edge of the tang, etc. Proving “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. As a buyer you have the right to not buy it if you don’t like the looks, just like some won’t buy a knife with covers that have mismatched colors. As your signature line says “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” Case obviously doesn’t inspect for that either. (I’m not sure what the inspection criteria is nowadays, but that’s a topic for another thread).

It seems at this day and time even that even the absolute truth of "THE ALL MIGHTY" is being morphed...the world looks at the basic foundation of truth as the oxymoronish concept of "liberal-conservatism"????
