All About Pocket Knives

Posting the trio of Dollar Knife Company knives I just received from Cooper Cutlery. I must say the fit and finish are spot on.

Some specifications-
Beaver Falls Cutlery
Spear Blade with Half-stops
D2 Tool Steel Blade
Blue, Red or Mammoth Federal Shield
Handle Material: Jigged or Natural Bone
Closed Length: 3-1/2" long
Blade Length: 2-3/4" long

I also have the Clark and Krauss book pertaining to the Dollar Knife Company/Schatt & Morgan history, which I need to read cover to cover soon. Apparently the blue Federal shields were one of the original knife distinguishing characteristics, but I do need to read the book more thoroughly. Posting some pictures for you perusal.

Nice to read a review of these. I saw this drop the other day and was tempted. I see some of these for sale on Ebay at or near the prices these were at the dealers.
I’m still waiting on Cooper Cutlery to produce something with more than single or 2 blades. I hope they can get to making whittlers, stockmans and sowbelly stockmans like Schatt and Morgan offered. I bought one of their first Schatt and Morgan knives and it’s a large knife, hoping that quality reaches a point where they can confidently offer the smaller multi blades.

These knives do look impressive, congrats.

Received my Dollar Knife this week and thought I would share my thoughts. First, I think the red burl maple handles are super good lookin. I'm not generally a fan of wood handles but I like these alot. The knife has a pleasing semetry. The bolsters appear to be the same thickness as the blade stock which is thick. I don't have my calipers handy but it's thick. The handles blend in perfectly with no gaps either with liners or bolsters. The nickel silver liners blend into the liners and blade very well. The blade is reported to be D2 so I tried to add patina with some vinegar but it didn't take. Will try again. Sharpness is about average for a new knife. The backspring is stiff with good snap both ways plus a solid half stop which I prefer. I must say I'm not a fan of the shield. It appears to be some sort of polymer poured into a void in the handle and then sanded flat. I think it would look better either with an old-fashioned shield or maybe no shield at all. I'm going to add this to my EDC rotation and in fact carried it today.

Rick that is a good looking knife. Love those wooden handles on that. Thanks for the review.

I'm partial to a pen blade and that one is nice. But those handles are exceptional! Deep color, beautiful pattern in the wood, I'd hate to carry it for fear of scratching them up. Did I say it's a good looking knife? Congrats.

I gave the handles a quick rubbed down with peanut oil this afternoon and it really brought out that red burl!

I don't know if you can see the difference here but here's a fresh oiled pic.

Awesome choice, RRR. I've since picked up a couple more including one like yours.
