All About Pocket Knives

I’m in the process of learning EVERYTHING about knives that I can fit into my old brain. I just ran across something as I was researching a knife before listing it on eBay. I have to want to be sure I’m describing it correctly to potential buyers. I’m the same way on my other platform. So I read about the safety that the blade will not slip with the security of heat treated back springs.
My question is how can you can tell this by looking at a knife or are do all knives have them and this is just an advertising line to draw customers?
Sorry, one other question, how can you tell what metal the liners are if they’re silver? I’m having a heck of a time with that one. I know a magnetic won’t cling to Stainless Steel so the only other I know is high carbon steel. Are those the only two? Those are the only two my research has come up with so far. I’ve been done this “knife rabbit hole” for several months!! I have a folder of info I’ve printed off Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!! And I have to say I AM SO HAPPY THIS SITE IS BACK UP! I checked it SEVERAL times a day! I was lost without all you guys!

If the liners are a silver color they can be nickel silver in most cases, however a few knives have used aluminum which is also a silver color. Not sure I understand your question about the springs. Steel liners of course will attract to a magnet.

Depending on the knife, silver liners can also be stainless steel. Think Buck knives, for example. The Schatt & Morgan Heritage Series knives were advertised as having “Norway Iron” liners so it can vary depending on the knife.

You could ask the manufacturer if they are still in business but I wouldn’t put excessive effort into it. If you don’t know, you don’t know. Many potential buyers don’t put a high emphasis on liner or back spring material although some might.

Some sellers don’t mention it either but I understand your desire to accurately describe the knife whenever possible.
