All About Pocket Knives

Hello,

I found this knife at an estate sale. From the tang stamp it looks like it's between 1920-1940. However, I have been unable to find another example of it. Can anyone help identify it for me? Thank you.

Sorry to say I believe it’s a “frankenknife” at best, and a counterfeit. The tang shows evidence of having been grinded down to remove the original stamp, so the Case Tested stamp could be applied. The corners of the letters in the tang stamp are not sharp and square, so it’s likely a “cold stamp” (applied after the blade was tempered/hardened). The pattern is unknown. To my knowledge (plus several references) Case never made a three-blade hawkbill, and never made a hawkbill with metal covers.

Here’s a picture showing what I’m referencing regarding the tang stamp. The shoulder grind line should be straight across from blade edge to spine. When metal is removed to remove the original stamp the resulting (remaining) grind line curves upward as it approaches the blade’s spine.

Thanks for the information. My 8 year old son started collecting pocketknives and picked this up for $2. It's a cheap education.
