burnishing

has anyone attempted to hand burnish a knife? any methods of removing those fine lines?
here is one of my pratice knives.

Hi Gringo...
This may sound stupid but it works for me, at least on a pocket knife blade. I use a freebie, Wal-Mart paint stirring stick. I drag the blade, back-side first along the length of the stick, then flip it over and go the other way. It is also good to use in addition to a piece of leather, to de-bur and strop a knife blade. ::shrug::

thanks bill...i think perhaps i should prepare the surface to a higher standard. this knife was in a fire, rusted to the shelf, i used a green pad and then took an solid push rod and fussed for a few days...i was suprised at the result...i would like a smoother surface..
