All About Pocket Knives

anybody venture a guess as to origin? age? bone handles, copper pins, no markings whatsoever. weighs 78.5 grams. very heavy. spine is 1/4". tapers to razor edge, very sharp(duh, it's a razor! ). very long tang.very rough to 1/4" of edge. corrosion? or just unfinished? 5 7/8" closed. blade edge is 2 1/2".

Thats an interesting piece ! I dont know anything about razors, But first impression is that is newer. Maybe a Patch knife made to resemble an old razor? Just guessing, very cool though

patch knife? like the ones used with black powder rifles? don't think it's made from anything else. it is a razor.

Straights are measured by the width of the blade, usually in 16ths or 8ths of an inch. The razor I posted in customs the other day was a 5/8, compare that to the sheer mass of yours, and you can see why MM guessed 7/8 or bigger

ahhh tech talk. never heard that about razors before. live and learn. thanks. so with it being 1/4" thick at the spine and 1" wide, it's a ?. how is this determined?

One inch wide would make it an 8/8. I don't think the thickness enters the equation.

I recently learned about this after buying a 6/8, which measured 3/4" wide.

There are straight razor sites on the internet which explain all the 'tech talk.'

been there done that, i had about 40 case, catt, etc. untill about 2 years ago. sold them all and bought more knives! never knew the size formula though. learn somethin on this site everyday! thanks fo edicatin me!::tu::

the fellas pretty well summed it up, so it's an 8/8 the thickness doesn't enter the equation, but the grind does I can't tell from the photo but it looks to be a full hollow instead of a wedge but can't be sure. It looks to have had quite a bit of honing before the corrosion too. These monsters are usually reffered to on straight razor forums as cleavers becuase they are so large.

it's a full concave. maybe i can use it in the kitchen when i prepare stew! any idea of value, if any?

tangstamp is everything on a razor, with no stamp, and the condition, the value wouldn't be very high.
