All About Pocket Knives

Something tells me the person who did this was quite proud of themselves. Not mine, but in an auction near me.

That's not pretty. Hope it wasn't one of the extra 1 stamped knives.

Must have been the person's way of turning that one into an easy open. Sure hate to see one butchered up like that but if it served its purpose, more power to 'em!

I've actually seen a handle modification like that before, but not a pull "embellishment" like that. Perhaps that knife must have belonged to someone with really fat fingers?

I can get mine open without fingernails, so I cease to see the point why you'd do this with a Cheetah.

The nail nick is has been opened up quite a bit. My guess is this was to flick the blade open with a thumb.

I wonder what year it was made. While its collector value today is zip, the modifications may have been done while it was not significanty different than Cheetahs available in stores everywhere. If it turned a Cheetah its owner could not open into a knife that was useful for the rest of their lifetime then good for them. If it was only done, as suggested above, so its owner could flick it open then, well, it was still their tool. The world was not littered with one hand easy open knives in those days.

what ever made them happy, but that knife is butt ugly.

Can you flick it open with your thumb?

I wouldn’t pay a whole lot for that, but I WOULD add it to my collection. I love old knives that show use, and modification / customization by the owner who carried it for years.

When my dad was in the navy he spent days filling finger grooves into a Buck 110. I got him a new factory finger grooved 110 for Father’s Day a few years ago. He didn’t like it, said it didn’t fit his fingers. He made his specifically for himself.

That knife ended up bringing $52.50 with about 23% in tax and commission on top of that. Not a bargain in my eyes.
