All About Pocket Knives

In an auction near me that ends soon. Listed as old Case knife with sheath. Comments? I'm thinking this may be a better knife?

Are you sure that it is a CASE? the pommel suggests another brand.

That's what they say in the auction listing and why I posted it on here. The also say this is military. Funny you get "experts" on here admonishing new collectors to learn to read knives and in many of these online auctions you get one picture to make a judgement with. If it's a folding knife the blades may be closed and there you go. I'm doubting Superman could actually read many of these knives.

I'd bet it isn't Case. My best guess is that the knife is a WW 2 vintage Navy Mark 1. The knife has a steel guard which is a key to war time production. The shape of the pommel suggests manufacture by Geneva Forge. The sheath appears to be original, although left-handed. I guess that is about all I can glean from the photo.

Thank you for trying to help. That is the only picture they provide. I tried to blow it up and I think it has U.S. on the tang, but I'm not sure its factory stamped. This is the actual copy and paste title they have on the knife - Lot #: 249 - Case USN Knife w/ sheath. I wanted to wait and post that to see if anyone on here could confirm what the title says by looking at the picture. Pig in the poke at best.

Agree the pommel does not look like a Case pommel.

I think it is a knife with a case (sheath), but not a Case knife.

I contacted the auction house yesterday afternoon and asked them why they thought this was a Case knife. They said that information was provided by the consignor. It's not uncommon for that to happen. They did add more pictures to the auction. The knife ended up bringing $55 plus about 20% in fees. I was never sure what name brand it was and passed on it.

I agree 100% For some reason a lot of these Deck knives have left hand sheaths.

Glad you were able to "read" the knife well enough to question what the listing says. Even from a single picture!
