My grandpa carried this knife for as long as I could remember I think it is some kind of balasong knife but there are no markings if someone could identify it that would be great

You might go to Google and search for old balisong knife then click on images. Look at the pictures that come up and see if you can find something similar to yours, I see a couple that are close.
