All About Pocket Knives

My last name is Young and my Dad collected a few knives. I'm a novice. Have a folder, "Schrade" style with the logo Young on the blade, encircled with the outline of a knife. Can't find anything online. He had some Marbles Ideal with RJ Young and this is different... Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I’m not understanding what you’re asking. It looks like the name and knife outline has been engraved, probably by, or for your father. It’s not a stamp as would be seen if applied by a maker during manufacturing. However some custom makers engrave their mark on the knife’s tang (or ricasso, if it’s a fixed blade). If that’s what you’re asking. If not please clarify what you're wanting to know.

Thanks Ken. Yes, my thinking was that this "logo" was something this maker used on many knives and maybe I could find more about the maker to assist with valuation. You might be right that it was done specifically for Dad... Does that knife look like a commonly manufactured knife rather than a one-off? I guess I'd have to compare with say a Schrade, etc., to see the differences. No other maker's marks that I can see. The engraving itself is not deep, but very well done I think. Overall the knife is well put together. I'm in a quandry.

Houston Price lists 3 makers named Young. The book is from 1991 so it's hard to say who is still around. Good luck. J.O'.
