George Bernard Schepers was born January 29, 1942 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Ralph and Shirley (McRoberts) Schepers. George was a 1960 graduate of Shelton High School. In 1962, George enlisted in the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1965. George was very proud to be a 4th generation blacksmith. He was a Master Knife maker and a talented musician. George was a member of the Shelton American Legion, Muzzleloaders Association and the Knife Guild.
Above from George’s obituary. Met him many years ago and he was an interesting fellow. He was forging damascus before Moran made it popular. He worked out of Chapman Ne with a shop on the Main Street (a small town) I have a few of his knives I have found and kept thru the years. The 1st knife is not damascus. But an interesting Bowie type knife. Makers mark was “SCHEP”. I found a knife for sale attributed to George but was marked “SCHEPERS” to the best of my knowledge only used the SCHEP mark. Hope other folks have some examples to share.

A small Damascus “neck knife” made by George. The sheath was made by a Buckskiner. George was a fixture at rendezvous and his knives popular among the muzzleloader bunch.

He did great work!
I had not heard of him before you posted this, and I am glad that you did.
Hopefully others will have examples to share as well.

I do hope there is some folks with examples to share. George had a lengthy knife making career. He made a lot of blades for others to finish into a knife. I recall seeing a Damascus blade he forged that the owners name was in the pattern of the Damascus. Never saw the finished knife.

I registered after finding this forum after searching for SCHEP knives.
My buddy bought a bunch of knives in a lot for like $50
He offered me a choice of one of the dozens of knives.
I got the Damascus steel blade dagger from my buddy.
Really cool.

Thanks for posting. Glad to see it. Nice dagger. I’m guessing that one is cable Damascus looking at the pattern in the blade.
