All About Pocket Knives

Picked this up today at a flea market. Doesn’t look like it has been sharpened outside of the factory edge. Any idea on what years this was produced?

As far as I know that model was produced between 1938 and 1960. I think it was discontinued sometime after Robeson bought out Kinfolks and moved production operations to Perry, NY. in 1958. The 92 pattern Folding Hunter appears it the 1958 Kinfolks Inc. Perry New York catalog, but it’s not in the 1960 catalog.

Someone else may have better info.

Given those punched nail nicks, I suspect that knife was made by Robeson.

If it was made by Robeson, when would you place the date?

Very possible. I think my prior post was in error, as I found the 6292 pattern in the Kinfolks Inc. Perry, New York July 15, 1958 catalog. However it is not in the 1960 catalog.

I’ll edit the prior post accordingly.

I read somewhere these were made by Robeson. I can't find it now. I will keep looking.
They also made a 8292, it had imitation pearl celluloid handles.
I have one of these, but it outgassed. I sent it to elvis/Bob to have rehandled.
He installed a red colored bone.

The 6292 shows in the 1939, 1948 and 1958 catalogs. Not in the 1960.
If the tang stamps were the same on folders as FBs, then this stamp is 1939-1951.

This information came from " Kinfolks Knives - A History of Cutlery & Cousins" by Dean Elliott Case.

That’s the same reference I have David. No doubt they were made by Robeson after Robeson acquired Kinfolks. Either that or there was Kinfolks inventory involved in the transaction, that was sold by Robeson, or Robeson made them for Kinfolks all along. In that same book are also reprints of (pre-Robeson ownership) Kinfolks catalogs that show the pattern. For example see page 83, the 1948 catalog showing the 6292 folding hunter in the middle of that page. And on page 57 it’s in the 1939 catalog reprint, along with several other folding knife patterns.

Some of which look like Case patterns, but others, like the 6292 do not. I have doubts whether Kinfolks made any folding knives, or more probably contracted to have them made?
