Show your fancy weapon’s that would have been part of the “essentials” for women of ill repute.
Small pearl handled dagger and a scissor dagger.

Cool daggers, kj, good idea for a topic since I've seen many similar knives posted by their owners under different topics.

Thanks I have always had a weakness for dagger style blade. From the small garter daggers to the large Arkansas toothpicks. Maybe another thread “Nothing but Daggers, two edges are better than one”

KJ, something about these 3 remind me of your "women of ill repute" above. My friend Gene (aka Gunsil) once told me that he thought the hexagonal Rodgers one on the bottom may just be a sharpening steel, but I think it looks far too sinister to just be a harmless sharpening steel.

Well it may be a sharpening steel but could be used for more deadly purposes. “Weapon? no that’s just a knife sharpener officer”
My understanding is that’s Dagger scissor rational, not a weapon.

Prostitute's dagger are a fantasy area of knife collecting. If you study old catalogs you will see that these little double edge pearl (often) handled knives were sol d as "paper knives" actually letter openers. I suppose a prostitute could have carried one, but the fact is that these women didn't go about their business armed. In movies yeah, in real life, nah.

Herb. Your hex-dagger could also be a skewer for holding the piece for slicing and serving ? Just a thought. Happy New Year to all. J.O'.

Today's working gals arm themselves with a dirty hypodermic needle, I work at the Courthouse.
Case made these Boot Hunters in the 1980's I believe, some came with garters and in riverboat style boxes.

You're correct Red. I had one, garter, box, and all. Sold it or traded, can't say now. J.O'.

It's a sharpening steel.

I would have thought the knives carried by such women would have been much smaller and more concealable ??

I don't know if this one was intended to be used for the purpose suggested by this thread, but at 6 3/4" OAL it seems small enough to qualify.
The metal scabbard/sheath having no means of attachment possibly suggests it was designed to be carried tucked/concealed inside something (belt, boot, clothing, etc.) although the stag handle doesn't seem properly "feminine" for a lady's carry, so it's probably just a bird & trout knife with an unusual metal sheath.

That’s a dandy knife. Looks to be a custom knife.

Beautiful symmetrically sound looking dagger, ~Q~, just the kind that caught my eye and sparked my interest in accumulating knives way back when.
I think it's the very small bolster "ears" I'm finding particularly attractive, since they're usually much bigger so as to act as finger-guards, and the stag covers ain't too shabby either.
That's a great knife, buddy, thanks for showing it.

When I first read your post, Herb, it reminded me of a similar knife I'd recently viewed on,
www.arizonacustomknives.com ,(SKU:#1076287). If you search this number it will pop-up and it's a safe site.
Then all the conversation regarding it's actual use continued to spark my interest, so maybe you or anyone else would like to view it and let us know what you think?
The description states it has 2 sharpened sides but that's difficult to see for sure, IMO it could easily have 3 or more, the handle material looks almost the same, and the fluted bolsters appear to be identical, but at this stage of the game I wouldn't trust my eyes for seeing things how they really are, so better judge for yourself.
The dagger in my 1st. pictures was purchased in England 4 years ago via ebay, and was described as an "OSS" assassin's dagger with removable bolster "ears" for deeper concealment and/or penetration, although I did get rebuttal's from a couple members who felt it was too big for something like that. It's exactly 11" total length.
The 2nd knife I received just before Christmas and hadn't got to posting it yet, and this is an ideal place to post it so there it is.
A 9" dagger from the AAPK store "Brotherskeeper, that was described as a fighting dagger or a letter-opener, you decide. It originally had a quality leather sheath, but one didn't come with it when I bought it.
It's certainly on the smaller side if that's a prerequisite for being a "Lady of the Night"!

If a lady of the night actually carried a knife for protection it would more likely be a knife from the kitchen. Just like the gang movies from the 50s showed gang members with switchblades. Most of those gang guys if they carried a knife it was one from the kitchen.

Which didn’t stop the politicians from banning switchblades, any more than the fact that long guns account for only a small percentage of gun crime (including murder) stops them (and their media sycophants) from demonizing “assault rifles”.

Wow, looks amazing, at first sight, I didn't understand that the knife is made of pearls
The handle parts are “mother of pearl (MOP)” which is the shell of a marine mollusk. Larger pieces can be used for handles for fixed blade knives, pistol grips ect . Usually smaller knives since large suitable shells are very scarce. More commonly MOP has been used as “covers” / handle scales on pocketknives. Very attractive material but brittle and pretty easy to crack and break. Working MOP requires proper handling due to lung illness, “silicosis” caused by inhalation of the dust. This was an occupational hazard experienced by workers in the knife industry for centuries. A very pretty natural material.
