All About Pocket Knives

Hi Folks,

I'm working through a large group of knives that I'm selling for a friend and would really like some assistance in correct identification but also what a reasonable price to ask for them. I will be offering these in the for sales section in groups.

This is the first group of AKC knives I would like assistance with.

From left - the first knife is 13" swivel-bolster, horn scale. Markings as shown - genuine? And value please?

I have quite a few knives to work through and this is not my specific area of expertise, so 'before' offering them for sale in the appropriate section, I would like more learned members assistance with correct identifications and values.

Let me try this group. All marked the same 'Frank B Italy' as shown in photo.

If someone could confirm authenticity and values that would be grand?

If they all have the stamp you showed, Roy, the light Frank B, then you've got your true identities cuz that's a genuine stamp he uses, as for price, I would guesstimate about $150. each, but I'd wait for Bill to post his opinion before you start counting the money just yet.
They make a good lookin' group for sure, though!

I apologize, Bill, if I put you on the spot regarding you stating true values, I just automatically think you know EVERYTHING there is to know about automatic knives!
Hold on, maybe you do know everything about automatic knives, perhaps it's just money where the doubt comes in! lol!

I want to compliment you on your sales strategy that you instituted in your store listing for your Frank B's and the counterfeit knives!
Since they're not the real-deal and parting with them is no skin off your teeth, I'm certain someone out there or in here will be very excited to get a deal like that, I know I would if I were in the market presently, or any time for that matter.

The counterfeits were the only knives available to me at one point, and once I'd bought one and found it to be a decent knife I was pleased with them and still am to a certain point since they'll always be great knives for satisfying "click therapy". But once I understood the difference between counterfeit and clone I've tried to lean toward clone should I see one I'd like to own, cuz cloning a knife is actually a compliment to the maker and knife, whereas counterfeiting a knife is a direct theft and insult to the original maker and is just not cricket, and it's worked pretty well.

So kudos to you, my friend, and I'd bet green money that listing won't be around for long!

How can you compliment someone for selling counterfeit knives on AAPK?
He doesn't even come out and admit they are counterfeits.
He says that he was informed they "MAY" be counterfeit.

I’m not sure what “counterfeit” means in this case. It’s already been established that ALL AKC switchblades are made in China. (Per Bill) . They are all Chinese unless purchased YEARS ago. I have one I bought 15-18 years ago and it is different in construction than these new AKCs . I said before,” I’m staying away from them”. Marked Italy and made in China? No thanks.

I bought a few from Wish knowing they were coming from China and paid about 12.00 shipped a few months ago.

Just to clarify a few points:

I am NOT selling 'counterfeit' knives, the listing is for 'five' genuine Frank Beltrame knives, the other (questionable) knives are 'bonus knives', i.e. FREE.

In regards the 'counterfeit' knives; I have had differing opinions from various sources, as I am no expert, I felt it best to alter the description to say 'may be'. But as I'm giving these away for FREE as bonus knives and not selling them, then I can't see why anyone would complain..

Also Marco, I agree, those counterfeit knives as quite decent. The little stag gripped one in particular is a really nice knife and all work really well. AGAIN - did I mention they are all FREE....

Any akc that I've seen is at least as good as a rizzuto,and look what they're fetching these days.,I used to buy them for five dollars.(of course that's when the hills were still pointy on top,and gas was fifty cents a gallon) As long as some body isn't trying to misrepresent something,I'm not offended. They make good stocking stuffers for christmas.

OK, so maybe I missed something here. Highly possible.
But, if they are counterfeit they need to be taken out of circulation.
Who's to say the person who receives these for "free" won't misrepresent them?

I certainly see your point, as-a-matter-of-fact, I try to make the same one when I ask that the threads be kept pure with content relative to what the topic is, so I do get it.
It won't hurt a bit to keep AAPK, or the entire knife industry for that matter counterfeit free, period.

Take them out of circulation?,swimming up niagara falls would be easier.As long as people keep buying them,the chineze will keep making them.People want something for nothing so they buy the thirty dollar knock off rather than put out three hundred or more for limited runs of xxx take your pick.Without a market there is no incentive.

As this thread has been somewhat highjacked and gone off topic. Let me pose another (somewhat related) question to our esteemed membership.

Why is it that no one ever apologizes any more?

In this instance (for an example) I was accused of selling fakes (aka 'counterfeit' knives), which I clearly was not. As a lifelong knife enthusiast and full time knife dealer I have worked really hard over decades to educate, share knowledge and keep fakes off the market (in my own specific area of expertise), including writing dozens of articles and daily replying to emails the world over from collectors, museums & auction houses etc., so my reputation is important to me.

I have no problem when folks make a mistake or "missed something", let's face it, we all do it form time to time. But what totally bewilders me is that in our 'modern' world no one feels the need to apologize when they are wrong or make a mistake. My mother always taught me to own up to my mistakes and apologize, something I find myself doing all too often ( ) but I have noticed these last couple of decades that for some unfathomable reason people (especially on the internet) are incredibly reluctant and disinclined to offer a very simple apology when in error.

I simply don't understand the reluctance, as it often puts the issue to rest. Have any of You experienced or noticed this?

My sincere 'apologies' if anyone takes offense over my comments or reflections, it's not my wish to point fingers and criticize any individual but merely just wanted to use this example to pose the question.
