All About Pocket Knives

I recently inherited about 50 pocket knives. Three are Joseph Rogders & Sons with one being quite interesting. It is a two blade knife with Joseph Rodgers & Sons on the blade and No.6 Norfolk St Sheffield England on one side and two cross stamps on the tang. The other blade is small with Cutlers to His Majesty on one side and Oil the Joints on the other. Some of the stamping is worn down. I will try to attach photos. Any information on the age of this knife would be greatly appreciated.

According to Goins, this stamp was used between 1875 and 1900. If it is marked England under Sheffield it was probably made between 1893 and 1900, because after 1893, tariff laws required that goods imported into the US had to be marked with the country of origin.

I think it would be after 1901. Prior to that it would have said "Cutlers to HER Majesty" as Victoria was queen until 1901.

What about the tang stamp "Oil the Joints"? Does it help when dating the knife?

I think it was made between 1893 andtunnel rush 1900

The style is, I believe, a "Loom Fixer". They are very desirable collectibles. Nice inheritance. J.O'.

Thanks for the info fellas. That would make sense. My dad, grand father and great grandfather all were loom fixers in South Carolina. I also inherited an almost mint 7 dot Case XX USA 6217. My dad always called it a loom fixer.
There are also 2 other Rodgers knives. One is a 4 blade knife that has Stockman's Friend etched on one blade. All the blades on both knives are stamped Rodgers Sheffield England on one side and the 2 cross symbols on the other side with England underneath. Both appear to have bone handles with a shield. I assume they and newer than the other Rodgers because they are in better shape. Does anyone know if that assumption is correct. Again, thanks for all the information.
