Talk about a storage/outgassing nightmare!!!

Lesson to be learned, dont put knives away in storage for 10 YEARS and not look at them! Wow!!

I recently had a guy who works for a local auctioneer bring a bunch of knives to me for appraisal. They were in knife rolls and every roll had at least one knife that had outgassed. Most of the knives showed at least a bit of damage although not as much as seen in the ebay listing above.

Thanks Steve, I actually would be tempted to take that lot on, but after reading the description indicating that they have been in a roll-up, in a safe for 10 years, I'm afraid that the whole lot is completely shot.

Ones that I have seen that are that bad from outgassing would break the liners thru the pin holes by just trying to open the blades. If you start replacing parts, where do you stop?

Looks like the outgassing got them all.

That's a crying shame.

I wouldn't mind having them, but not for the price that the bids have already reached. I believe anyone would be lucky to have 1/3rd of those with good liners. Probably less than that. I don't think an honest knife mechanic can make their money back on them.
I hope for someone's sake that I am wrong.

Final bid was $603.

I think they were a good buy for a few hundred, but maybe not for that much...

I find it very hard to believe someone paid that much.
