All About Pocket Knives

I got these two scout knives for my two sons for Christmas. After getting them in hand I am having second thoughts about it. Do you think they would settle for a swiss army knife?

They look so good with my other bones

Who do think the makers are? Only stamping is 'Made in USA'

Joshua, those two were most likely made for Sears by Camillus. Both very fine old knives. How old are your sons? Maybe both a Made in USA and a Swiss. I would love to see a pic of the one with the wide bail with all the blades open. Does it have a Philips screwdriver as one of the blades?

Just my opinion but I think it depends on how old they are. 20's and under I would probably give them a SAK. 40's and older, the knives you showed might be more appropriate. Unless you're a mind reader, anything is a shot in the dark. Good luck.

Boys are young - really just saying that to be funny. These knives will be handed to them when their much older. Just a nice start to their collection.

Floyd, I think we all have thoughts/questions about letting go of knives for gifts, even when purchased specifically for an individual. I've never knowingly bought a junk/trash knife for a gift and it always seems to come to mind, what will the recipient do with this knife?

That is a 10th Mountain Division knife from WW2 isn't it. What a treasure and it look to be in great shape as well. A very desirable knife. Congrats on owning it.

When I’m gifting a knife to a youngster I always keep in mind that the younger they are the more likely it is they will lose it. I’ll give them a good usable knife, but not one that’s worth much (how much is a subjective). If they’re under 18 I always ask their parents if giving them a knife is permissible. I teach them how to safely use and care for a knife. For using go with a SAK. If they are older and collectors give them the bone knives.

The USA made Camillus Demo knives are good users too.
