Case Tad Pole Should be 2 1/2" Pattern should be 2229 1/2 looks ok to me just a little short on the blade

I agree, Case 2229-1/2 (Tadpole). Looks okay to me.

I have never seen a Case stamp with S as $ ,
or is that a scratch?

Scratch, rust, or whatever.
Read the knife, not the stamp. JMO
(BTW, on Tadpoles a CASE XX stamped version is way more common than the CASE XX USA. They quit making the pattern in the 1967-68 timeframe so the XX U.S.A. were only made for two or three years).

Thanks for the replies.
It was the combination of the shape of the blade and the stamp that led me to ask.
Always been too nervous to ask because I don’t want to post a member’s listing and offend anyone
I appreciate the sharing of knowledge - this is how we learn

Never be nervous about that, there are members here who sell spurious knives on ebay.

I dunno, to me the tang looks way taller than most XX era knives I’ve seen. I’m not real familiar with this pattern not sure I’ve ever seen one in person. Compare the tang and stamp to this one
