I recently acquired this set of Western knives. I'm not very familiar with this brand but I was intrigued with them.... so.... I took the bait.

What do I have? Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

My set has no tang markings whatsoever, nor are there any markings on the brass hand guards. I'm almost certain that they are genuine Western Cutlery products, but I'm at a loss of what to make of this. I've read the suggested post about them and although very informative, it offered nothing that would help with my personal issues. Does anyone have anything that might give me a clue of what I actually have?

The sheath looks to be original 1959-60 .The knifes are indeed genuine western products .A lot of western knifes on the market these days that have been re handled to mimic older year dated knifes .could be that your knifes were re handled and the tang stamps shaved or buffed off .the red one looks to be a brighter red than the original red tentite. Western used .

Just seeing this thread. Somehow I missed a few back in November.

I have no explanation for the lack of ricasso stamps on these knives. They are Westerns and at the time they were made, different model numbers applied than Pxxx. The 48A is a 48BGG and the 48C is a 48CAP.

Here's the bad news - it's a cobbled together set. The X84 Twin Sets came with a 48A and 28, either L, P or 6. The 48A in this set is from 1948 to 1950. The 48CAP is a 1950 to 1953 knife. A propre set would have knives with matching spacer patterns.
