All About Pocket Knives

I won this today in Bruce Voyles’ auction in Pigeon Forge.

1910 to 1916.

Haven’t measured its height, but close to four feet and 7 1/4” wide.

Nickel plated copper with wear and curved glass.

I sold my Robeson tall tower case in Lexington in August.

Great find.

Pretty sure I won’t put anything in it.

The hangers were for specific patterns and I have no ifea what they were.

Opening it would be a major endeavor.

It’s the only Terrier of which I am aware, but I understand that three identical, but differently marked, cases were found in the Schatt & Morgan factory when it was taken over by Queen City.

I hope I understood that correctly.

Enlighten a novice to tall tower cases, what's inside and was it used for knife shop displays?

Basically, there is a “3x4” that is installed into the cavity from the back.

This one is a bare piece of finished wood. Another Robeson I had was covered in felt.

Knives were mounted on the three visible sides of the 3x4, using thin, stiff wires, like wire nails.

There are red starburst price stickers still in place in some, but not all areas. There are some lying at the bottom. These same stickers were in the Robeson case.

The prices are interesting; i.e., 35 cents, 50 cents, etc.

My Robeson case was also a tall case, but it wasn’t constructed like this one and did mot have curved glass or a company logo on the glass.

Those are some unique display cases. Somewhere I’ve seen a picture of a tall Robeson case, but I’ve never seen a Terrier display case of any style.

Roger, am I correct that the Queen City display was intended to stand on one end? (The writing on the stickers appears to be legible in that orientation)?

These cases are 54 1/2” tall and 7 1/2” wide across the back.

The tall Robeson case I had was a bit taller and had a hanger tab attached to the top on the back.

The Terrier case I just bought had a hanger tab on the top of the back, but it is missing.

They would not be safe standing on the floor.

Yes it set on the end,and has a ring at top to screw it to a wall to keep it steady.

Roger, can you provide a photo of the ring at the top?

It’s missing on the Terrier.

I’d like to try to reproduce it.
