Short Line Camillus 23 with Buckeye Burl Handles

This was an old used and abused Camillus 23 but since its a short line model it was worth saving. I installed some nice stabilized, dyed, buckeye burl wood handles and inlayed a new custom handle shield, then gave it a cleaning and polishing. She turned out pretty good.

Just a beautiful job on a classic folder. Nice save, Jeff.
All 23s need saving in my view.

Camillus 23's are a great canvas to work on. That heavy old workhorse is not only gorgeous now, but also looks like it is ready for the next 100 years!

A dumb question but…. I’ve never heard of Camillus knives described as “short line or long line”. What’s the difference in these designations ? I have many Camillus knives I’ve collected for decades. Thanks

Oscar . The short line underneath the word Camillus generally indicates its manufactured dates of 1946 to 1950. Then the long line underneath was started in 1951 or so and was used for many years . There’s a second short line with different font that was used on the MC1 ( orange handled paratroopers knife ) ,1959 or so and a slanted bolster series , 1970 or 80 s , also that confuses some . Hope that helps you out .

Oscar there is Camillus tang mark pictures listed on the Research button at the top of the page. All are listed there except for the no line stamp that was used early on after the war. It continued on some knives until at least mid 50's. Mainly the fish knife and the the rope knife and also the model 99 camp knife.

Along with the 72's, the 23 is my favorite Camillus knife. You turned that one into the star of the show.
