All About Pocket Knives

I check this forum from time to time, and there is not much discussion about military knives. And that is a shame. So, in order to initiate discussion about military knives, with some photos, what is your favorite WWII knife? My favorite is the USM3. Why, because it is so well made, and could be used as both a general use utility knife, and it would make a very effective fighting knife. I found this one years ago and it’s in remarkable shape. Alright, so what is your favorite, and why. Let’s see some photos.

I agree. The first time I handled one and felt how light but sturdy it was I was impressed. I’ve had several over the years in various conditions (none as nice as yours though). I had a ground down beat and dried up one as a kid that took a lot of abuse and took for granted just how quality of a knife it is.

Iv'e always been partial to the USN MK2 by Ka-Bar
The Devils Brigade Commando knife is pretty slick too.

Not a fighting knife as most think of being military, but my favorite is this utility pattern made by Case for the U.S. Navy during WWII. Red “Fiberloid” covers. Why? I collect the pattern, and it’s a fairly rare knife.

I've never seen, or at least never noticed, a 'phillips' driver on the bail .... pretty cool !

Chris, If my memory serves me correctly, the Phillips was used to tighten the bindings of skis ⛷

Mike, the 10th Mountain Division "Devil's Brigade" knives are my favorite too. I finally snagged an example of "type 1" quite recently (upper left).

I'm partial to the Mark 1's, even though they were technically made for WWI but weren't issued in time, for the most part. This French-made knife could have seen the trenches.

Super nice knife John! I just feel like I've seen that exact knife somewhere before.

Here’s one that didn’t realize it was for the military until after purchasing Mike Silveys book . No brass anywhere ,nice bone functions properly and looks to have been over buffed a little . Have heard the ones with shields are early WW2 ones but have no proof .

Fairbairn Sykes Dagger (style)...

Ripster, that is a prize! I have one but am aways on the look out for them. Yours is a good example.
