All About Pocket Knives

I saw these on eBay this week and asked one of the sellers about it, since the ad says made in the USA. It’s not an older Queen, it’s freshly made. I checked with him because I was unaware that any new Queens are being made in the USA. Sorry if this has been asked before, but finding older topics on this forum has always been difficult for me.
Who is making these in the USA? At 49 dollars I would guess that these are made by Bear. He assured me that these are USA made and not China, so if that’s the case then who is making these?

Looks very similar to the 4 1/2" Utica made trappers of recent years.

Utica has been pretty good to quickly answer any questions I've had, so I think will email them and see what they have to say.

It's really pretty easy once you've seen the steps. I'll record the steps sometime when I'm feeling froggy (and my memory is working).

Yeh, Ive seen a couple. but for me, ALL Queens were made in Titusville. Period.

Bear and Son makes a lot of contract knives for other companies, but it is hard to imagine them producing these in bone at that price point.
I am eager to find out as well. Hope one of you get an update soon!

No consensus yet. I’m tempted to buy one just so I can handle it. I get a pretty good idea who made a knife when it’s in hand. Still hoping someone will know the answer.

I agree that it will be difficult to tell unless you have it in hand, or (even better) the distributor releases the information.
I wonder if it might be Bear and Son, because the frame and blade shape reminds me a little bit of the Moore Maker Jumbo stockman.

That is a beauty Reverand! I have two older Moore Makers, by Queen, I believe, both Trappers.

Thanks Reverand, I believe you are right. It does look just like the MM’s made by Bear. I’ve handled those and know what they feel like. The blades shape sure look the same. Thanks for posting that.

Looking forward to maybe getting one of these Queens... However i have looked at the pictures and I am bothered by the lack of any "USA" markings on these knives. I have heard they can still be made in the USA (new Leathermans for example are NOT mark USA) but have some foreign components and not be able to carry the USA stamp, even though produced here. I would be a lot more comfortable seeing a "Made in the USA" stamping on these knives proudly displayed for all to see...

At those price points, Bear makes sense.

They seem to be a mixed level of performance, and I may get one just to see if they upped their quality game, although the last Remington that SMKW snuck out (made by Bear) left me wanting, I’ve had some pretty solid Bear knives as well

I'm thinking B&S, I have the pilot run and the second knife made by Bear, also a China made. The fit and finish is about the same on all three. Snap on a scale of 1to10 is the pilot run is about a 8, the red handle one about a 4 and the Chinese a 7.my opinions ymmv.

I just ordered two... they have pictures online that has the tang stamp marked USA... we will see. ... I wish I had some more information, but they look very nice from the pictures... once they are in the hand I will know more.

I ordered 2 from SMKW, now I am looking on ebay; Queen pocket knife Big Boy Trapper Red Bone Handle 1055 Carbon Steel Blades USA. I don't see a USA stamp on the knife, but at $48, I am tempted to order one... So far the guess is that they are B&S, any other ideas after kicking this around after a few days?

TopDog, No other ideas so far. I think Bear is the most likely maker. I do wonder if they are having the parts made in China and shipped to the USA for assembly? That would help explain the price point. Don’t know what the rules are on how much has to be made or done in the USA to claim it’s a USA made product? Seems like the rules get bent when it comes to knives.

Mark, I have seen two new examples of Queens for sale. one marked "USA" the other NOT marked "USA". I have ordered both as I am curious to their quality etc...and I love Queen knives. I think it is around 70% USA made that Letherman claims for their products at least according to a guy with a You Tube Multi-Tool channel. You will notice that a new Leatherman is also NOT stamped "Made in China". So, the difference between having the stamp seems to be a product is “all or virtually all” domestically produced.

A “Made in USA” claim is a label affixed to products that indicates the product is “all or virtually all” domestically produced, manufactured, and assembled in the United States. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regulates the use of the “Made in USA” label. According to the FTC, a product advertised as “Made in USA” must be “all or virtually all” made in the United States. The FTC has not defined a specific percentage of domestic content required for a product to be considered “Made in USA”. However, the FTC has stated that a product is considered “all or virtually all” made in the United States if it has undergone “a significant transformation” in the United States and contains only negligible foreign content.

I think that explains how parts are all made overseas and the assembly in the USA would allow them to label them as “Made in the USA”. At this price point something doesn’t smell right. It’s too bad that there is so much secrecy in the knife manufacturing world. Why can’t they just come clean and tell us who made them and where were the parts sourced? Without a defined percentage they could use pins made in the USA and everything else sourced outside of the USA and call it USA.
I won’t be buying any of these until this is clear, who made these and were did the parts come from?

This is one I know for SURE is USA made .... ... Uhm... ... I think?
