All About Pocket Knives

Thomasg sent me a few knives as a tip for the work I recently did for him. One was this Cattaraugus whittler with a proud Main and a broken Mark-side handle.
I have not been over to the knife shop for over a month, but I managed to repair this knife with some epoxy and a Dremel tool on my front porch!
I do not have Acraglass, but I did have some JB Weld brand 5-minute clear epoxy. I sanded a scrap piece of Walnut for the color, and a little of it matched the color fairly well. But I should have added a lot of light-colored powder as well, as I can still see through the patch!
Oh well, it is okay for a first patch. And the old beauty is going into my pocket and riding to church this morning!

I'd say that's a very nice job of repairing that knife. Based solely on the photos you provided, the only thing that would make me question that knife is this gap. Other than that, I could not tell the difference. For a first try, I'd say you hit it "out-of-the-park". Well done.

There are other threads on here about epoxy patch and I think your's is as good as any of them.

P.S. - I'm surprised that you haven't done more patches. I find they are "hit and miss" and many times I'm not happy with my results. The good thing about epoxy is you can just warm it up with a heat gun or hair dryer, pry out the patch with a pick and give it another try. For me, matching the colors is the hardest part.
