All About Pocket Knives

I've been on the David Yellowhorse website and jonesin for a trapper there. Beautiful and affordable BUT the source knife is a Bear and Sons knife which I've read here is of sketchy quality. Do you think he is selective about his source knife before doing his magic?

That's a very good question, RRR, and one that I don't have an answer for.
We have a new member who is currently on vacation, and she's a huge Yellowhorse advocate that might have the answer.
When she's back I'll ask her and report back to this thread.

You can readily find Buck, Case, and others customized by David Yellowhorse, but you may know that already. The web site clearly specifies who the maker is. Other members of the Yellowhorse family also do knife customization.

If it’s the style you want rather than the Yellowhorse name, take a look at the “limited availability” knives on the Moore Maker web site www.mooremaker.com. Some really nice looking customizations there IMHO, but their customized knives are not cheap. In my experience the Moore’s do a good job of incoming QC. If you buy from their web store you’ll get a good knife. JMO

I was surprised to see that the Bear & Sons Trapper is the same price as the Buck 55's. The Bucks are smaller but I would trust their quality more.

That Trapper is a fine looking knife though.

I don’t know anything about knife customization but I assume that David has to disassemble the knife in order to customize it. I also assume that in that process, he would correct any issues related to assembly.

I see that David does not have the Trapper listed as “In Stock” which probably means that he will have to make one for you. Perhaps you could call him before you order and ask him to pick out a good one.
