All About Pocket Knives

My cousin bought this nice, stacked handled, PUMA skinner. The guard was on the spine side (I think because the edge side broke off and someone filed the stump.) Anyway he and a buddy dismantled the knife to reorient the guard to the edge side. Luckily they snapped a pic beforehand. He brought it to me, the washers randomly stuffed into a mailer envelope. Yikes!! Getting those hard rubber,(gutta percha), washers in the proper order was not easy and I may have swapped spaces with one or two above and below the center but it came out pretty well. I would seriously recommend taping them down in order when disassembling. It'll save a lot of head scratching.

Thanks Dale. I've been looking at why the washers were hard to match up. Seems thermoplastic materials like celluloid and gutta percha after being in static positions for a long time and then being released can distort and even shrink. When guitar mechanics remove glued-on celluloid pick guards from guitar tops they immediately glue them down temporarily so they can be reapplied after a repair and not shrink. Might be a good tip for restoration jobs ?
