All About Pocket Knives

Hope this works out Ok and we can remember the good friends from way back when. This is an old Mail order catalog that Jim Sargent would send out monthly. The Date on this one is November 10, 1976 and it's his Christmas catalog last one of the year. Everyone talks about the high price of knives now. Just look and wish we had of bought everything on this 4-page catalog. My son was just born in September of this year & I picked up a Pearl Shad 089 Pattern. Looking back now I wish I had of ordered on page 2 his Tested Long Pull Green Bone Stockman 6375 Pattern for $75.00 or the 10 dot 6488 for $13.00. If you ever went to a NKCA Show you would see Jim & His wife Jean, top notch in my book , I don't think I ever remember seeing Jim set down at any of the shows I attended or set up with them in the last40 years or more. I know the title say old mail order catalogs but without Jim & His Family our knife world would be missing out on a Great ambassador that always had time to look at your knives and give his opinion. I thought he was the most honest of all the knife guys from the beginning. Now I would welcome anyone with old knife mail order catalogs to chime in or just if would like to comment thanks

Neat list. That $75 in 1976 is $402.16 in todays money. Still a pricy knife.

Yes you are right. It's going to bring over $2000.00 to the right collector now adays.

$18 in 1976 is $94.69 in today's funds. Seems like a good deal for a mint 1940-1964 12031 to me. Thanks for showing the old price list, Gary!

Thanks Dan if you notice I had Jim Sign it in 2002 & ask if he still honored the price's , I can't believe it's been 21 years since he signed it

I remember the old NKCA shows of the 80's and early 90's that my grandfather brought me to. I was pretty young, and it was intimidating to see how huge those shows were, with so many knives out on display. Grandpa was friends with the Sargents, along with many of the other dealers.

My family makes maple syrup in Pennsylvania every spring, and so my Grandpa let me bring some jugs of syrup to set on his table to try and sell and make a few dollars. The last day of the show, Jean Sargent would always come over and buy some from me. Me being a 5-6 year old Pennsylvania boy, I always had a hard time understanding her thick southern accent. Fond memories.

Ah . . . I remember as a kid in the 70's, getting a $20 bill was like getting a today . . .

Especially if you FOUND that $20. bill on the sidewalk, right John? lol!
