I traded for a 1981 grandaddy Barlow, with beautiful stag handles ,tang stamped 80s, 9 dot, (1981)Blade has the slogan inked ," last of old grandad", in gray ink.has anyone ever seen this slogan stamped on the grandaddy Barlow? I've never seen this or heard of it. There are no graphics with lettering.

Pin heads on the shield look odd, don’t typically see them that proud. Hafting on stag can be non-uniform though due to the rough textured nature of stag though. I’ve seen a sawcut Delrin handled 6143 with the same etch except all on one line, not two lines. Does yours have a pattern number?

Yes, actually the handle number is wrong , it should have a 5143 tang number ,and it has a bone or delrin number,6143. I know it has either been bladed or handled.the shield pins are larger than usual, but the handles are beautiful and fit the bolsters and liners perfectly, like a Case xx should be, or even a rehandle from Case. Liners and spring line up perfectly, has good tension, possible it left the factory with wrong tang stamp ,but doubtful.its interesting to study these knives for sure.thank you for your input

Pretty sure it’s a re-handle then. I did a little research, and cannot verify Case ever made a stag version of the knife having that blade etch. knifedb.com shows they made a 6143 with the etch but no stag version. It says they did make a 5143 Grand Daddy Barlow with “stag or burnt stag handles and no shield”, as a SFO for Vulcan Knife Club. They were serial numbered and blade is etched.
Probably not what you wanted to hear, but that’s a lot of coincidences to think otherwise IMHO.
Nice knife though.
