All About Pocket Knives

I should have defined the knives I've been calling "Kid's Knives" and show how they differ from Bird/Trout knives in my post about Kid's knives from the 50's, so here it is: The little kid's knives made by Western, Case, Kinfolks, Robeson and others are just over about 6 inches with the blade 3 inches and the handle 3 1/8th inch or so. The bird/trout knives have a longer handle at about 3 5/8th inch with a 3-inch blade. I posted a picture of several of each with a Western W66 shown for reference. I'm generalizing of course based on a couple dozen in my collection and companies did whatever they pleased and I have no idea what they called them in their catalogs.____Dave

DJK : Here's an unmarked "kid's" hunter. Nice Rogers bone, nickel guard. I say "kid's" because it's kind of a scaled down piece, shorter (3-1/4") handle and a thinner gauge blade. Wish I knew who made it. Gene said maybe Colonial. Funny they didn't stamp it. Maybe a hardware or general store item. ??
Interesting, the sheath is marked "Bob Mann" "Troop 65" Wonder if he's still around?

Great looking knife.

My son acquired an old USMC K-Bar with a name on the sheath. He did some research and found a little about the likely prior owner, who had passed away by the time the research was being conducted. We suspect he either traded or sold off the knife or someone in his life did the same after he passed, indicating to us that the knife did not hold sentimental value to him and/or the family, so my son ended his initial plan to return the knife to the guy who's name was on the sheath.

I have several of these. I think, and may be way off the mark, that Marbles started this pattern. Remington, Western and several other companies made copies of these. I'll have to dig through my safe and find the names I have so far. Thanks for your response.____dave

I don't know who made yours. I should have compared the jigging when I had mine out, but all the jigging is so similar that I don't know if that would have gotten us anywhere. Here are some of mine that I could find. I have others stashed away but I'm not sure where. I know I have a Marbles in its correct sheath but couldn't lay my hands on it right now. The ones shown are; Top row Left to right Remington, HS&B, HS&B, Marshall Wells, Imperial, Ka-Bar. Middle row are all Remington's, 3rd row, Cattaraugus, Name buffed away, Imperial, Robeson Jimmy Allen, Kinfolks, and Western. I believe I've seen these called "Youth Knives" in a catalog somewhere.____Dave

Truth be told, you could do about 90% of all needed knife work with one of these little guys.

A small fixed blade clauss contract knife.Anyone have a guess on who might have made the knife? Thanks.

When each of my Great-Grandsons was born, I purchased the smallest fixed blade I could find and sent it to them. Their parents were instructed to hang on to them until they felt the boys were old enough and responsible enough to have them. Too bad I won't live long enough to see that happen. Don't know what to get my Great-Granddaughter, due in August. Suggestions??

If the handle is hard plastic, it looks like a Colonial made knife. If it's better quality, I've seen Ka-Bars that looked like that. Anything I might guess would be just that, a fairly wild guess.____Dave
