Saw this on SMKW. I don't know who the audience is for this. And at that price??? ::facepalm::

Definitely an odd looking knife but being a Spyderco, I'll bet it has excellent ergonomics.

I know nothing about it but guessing from the picture I’d say it’s a smallish lockback flipper. That means it already hits three buttons of the modern generation knife buyer. 1, small. 2, lockback. And 3, foremost it’s a “flipper”.

There was a recent post here from a member (tvic) asking for recommendations for a knife to be used primarily as a box cutter and having a blade steel which holds its edge and doesn’t have to be continually resharpened. Bingo on the blade shape, and bingo on S45VN steel.

IMHO it’s an ugly design. Ugly being typical Spyderco (sorry all you Spydie fans but that’s my opinion). However I’m guessing it hits a lot of the modern knife buyer’s buttons. The primary drawback being price.

And then there is the “It takes all kinds” theory!

That is an excellent well thought out post, Ken.

Wow, that is really a homely knife. But like others said, to each his own. Maybe it meets a legal requirement somewhere against having a blade over "X" inches in length.

Butt-ugly gets my vote!
I'm wondering if it's not suppose to resemble a bird; the pistol grip being the beak, the rivet being an eye, the black piece sticking out from the top being ears, the 3 choils being feathers, and the stubby little blade being the body..... ::hmm:: !
Think "Bird's-eye" frozen food!

To me it resembles a dog. ::shrug::
I figured it being called Pochi. It's pretty homely.

Yah, I can see that, Tim. ::nod::
Try looking at it from the tip of the blade going backward, to me it appears to be a pig with the Spydie hole it's eye and the Spydie bug icon a nostril! ::shrug::

I recall the first Spyderco knife I ever saw. A friend of mine had it and was so proud of it. I guess I should have held my tongue, but when he asked me what I thought, I told him it was the ugliest knife I'd ever seen. Not until I had one and used it did I come to appreciate the great ergonomics Spydies have built into them. I'm thinking this knife has similar, well-hidden redeeming qualities. ::shrug::

I like some Spyderco models ------ not this one.

I think the design and the price are kind of silly.

Mr Google says Pochi is the name of a Japanese cartoon dog. To each his own.

I don't know why, but when I saw that Spyderco Pochi, it reminded me of Poncho, one of the characters in the comic strip "Pooch Cafe"

I think knife designers are running out of ideas. But, yea, if someone thinks this is a good looking knife and will spend that kind of money .... well, something my I can’t wrap my simple brain around. Yea, Ken, I was asking about a good everyday, dont-care-if-I-beat-it-up knife that’s will keep its sharpness, but this ain’t it!

The Dragonfly and Ladybug 3/Jester do the same jobs at a fraction of the cost. Plus, both of these have a huge variety of steels, and aren't that expensive even with the higher-end steels.

I am planning on getting the K-390 and S30V Ladybugs later this year. I prefer the Jester's blade, but it was discontinued long ago, and has only popped up recently as a couple of sprint runs. I have the CPM-20CV issue from The Knife Joker, which was close to $60 if I recall. Pricey for a small knife, but still only about a quarter of what this one sells for. CPM-20CV has really impressed me with its performance. This one has been used regularly for two and a half years and has yet to be what I consider dull.
